Hi all,
I m thinking of ordering some Easton Axis, but to be honest am confused by the options. Im shooting a 55# @ 27" Actionboo cored longbow. Arrows will be Easton Axis with 100gr brass insert, 100/125gr steel adapter and 200gr broadhead. Which spine Axis do I need, I'll be using the arrows full length?
Also has anyone tried the new Carbon Express terminators and Rebel Hunters. Any comments on these arrows. Do they accept the 100gr brass inserts from 3 Rivers, the ones made for the axis shafts?

I have no direct answer for your shafting questions but unlike woodies or alums, carbons are typically more difficult to select and tune. The following may be of help to you in your quest ...
The ONLY carbon arrow shaft that typically works out of a wide range of bow weights, arrow lengths and FOC, are the AD Trads. If you've got the money, I'd strongly suggest going in that direction, because that tapered carbon has that good of a track record with almost all archers/bowhunters.
Though I use AD Trads, I mainly use those cheap Beman ICS Venture/Bowhunter shafts in the weaker 500 spine rating. These are quite durable and accurate carbons.
My prime hunting bow is a Firefly TD hybrid longbow, 60", 55# @ 29" and my Beman shafts are cut to 29" with a 100 grain brass insert, and a 200 grain point/adapter combination, for a total arra weight near 550 grains. The resulting high 27% FOC gives me an arra that flies like a dart, with a 4" x 1/2" nanner 75x105 four fletch. By regulating the insert, adapter and point weight, I can use the same arra for other bows down to 40# in holding weight. The arras fly great in all cases. I pays to look into weaker spined carbons, even if you want a high FOC with lots of up front weight. Good luck!

Why do you need full length arrows for a 27" draw? Is that just the bow weight? what is your draw length?

Thanks for the info Rob, thats a coincidence as the bow these arrows will be used for is also a FireFly. I was thinking of trying half a dozen AD Trads and a half dozen either Axis or Bemans. Thanks again for the info.
R H Clark the arrows will be full length simply because I dont mind the extra length and wil be able to tune them better if I need to. Yep the bow weight is 55# and my draw length is 27".

My misunderstanding.I thought you wanted to LEAVE them full length.
I think you could shoot a .400 and trim untill they are stiff enough.I use .500's in that poundage range but with less weight up front.

For me, most carbons that are weak in initial spine work best. I've done a buncha testing with the Venture 500's in terms of FOC and have gone from 300 grains up front to 400 grains (from 540 to 640 total arrow weight) with no difference in arrow flight. These arrows use very short and low profile four feather fletches.

Rob which AD Trads would you reccomend the normal ones or Trad Lites, and is there any strength or weight advantage in getting the wood grain shafts?

AD Trads.
Dunno anything about spex on the wood grained ones.

I have some ADs that I am going to put some 100gr. inserts in tonight and bareshaft them. They are just the regular ADs. My draw length is 28" with a 55# recurve. Hope to tune them with some 125gr.-150gr. tips. I have had great results doing this with Carbon Express Heritage shafts cut down to 29.25". This will be interesting to try with the tapered ADs.
