Hello everyone I thought it was about time I introduce myself I’ve been hanging out in the background taking in all the great information and conversations on the Trad gang form . I’ve been a woodworker , Carpenter and contractor for 37 years , i’ve been a bowhunter for approximately 30 years and a traditional bowhunter for the last 20 years . I am very much new to bow building the only experience I have is building my daughter a cherry stick bow when she was a little girl other than that I’m a complete novice . A big thank you goes out to Kenny for supplying me materials and putting up with my endless questions so far
I’m extremely excited to get going on my first build but as of 21 days ago I blew a disc in my low back so my first build is going to have to wait for a bit but I will continue to hang out and learn from you guys until I’m good to go so thank you again for letting me in on this great group I most appreciate it . Bryan. Adolphe Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

Welcome Bryan! Sorry to hear about the back -- get better soon, 'cause it's hard to shoot a bow, let alone build one, with a bum back!
What are you planning to build?
-
Welcome Bryan. Only been at bow building about a year myself. I feel your pain with your back! I am afraid I am going to be wore out before I can retire and build bows full time!
Welcome!

Hello Ken I am very much interested in laminated fibreglass bows I have a couple of Kenny’s longbow plans , A one piece forward handle and his take down . 👍
-
Yes for sure the last couple years my body has been telling me that 37 years of hard labour is catching up It would sure be nice to hang out in my shop and quit this contracting business once and for all .

Welcome from Ontario. You chose a good place to learn here. This is where I learned to build bows. I also feel your work induced pain. I work four ten hour days and I love my three day weekends, but at my age and me crating industrial valves, I usually spend my Fridays resting. 🥵
Dave.

Hello newer guy. I'm new myself. Careful, don't let these guys use you for chum :biglaugh:
I just got done with 3 months of sciatica from a pinched lower lumbar disc. It will probably get better given some time and consideration. If this is the first time with a disc problem, be careful when it starts to feel better. It's easy to start going at life full bore, when your back is not quite ready.

Welcome to the Club... There is an Initiation fee of $100... I'll pm you the address... Bad back issues - that's $50 extra... You know, liability stuff...
-
Should be some kind of rebate for still being in the hospital Lol

Still in the hospital?? That will be $50 more...
Heal fast my friend...
Stretching and excersize go a long way... Gotta do it right though...

I'm in the same boat... or have been off and on for years. Too many years of heavy constriction takes a toll brutha.... I got to the point 10 years ago when my lower back went out badly that they wanted to do surgery. I told them i wasn't interested, and used an inversion table and acupuncture to get back on my feet again a couple times. I haven't had any issues in ten years after that inversion table physical therapy. The inversion table allows better circulation and along with the acupuncture it was amazing results. Thought i'd share that with you...
Good luck on the bow building adventure... Its a gas! Kirk

Count me in to the bad back club. A lifetime of construction and mill maintenance broke me down.
Welcome to the Bench of Gimpy old Bowyers, Canstikem

Thanks guys I did finally make it home last Monday 26 days in that godforsaken hospital they couldn’t get the meds right to take care of the nerve pain kept pumping me full of Dilaudid anyways stressful place after I got home here things are looking up started Physio definitely feeling better and got off half of the meds and lost all the stress involved in being in that hospital , I definitely got a ways to go before I can turn a saw blade but I’m really looking forward to this thank you again for everyone’s ideas and expertise in this bow building venture it’s gonna be a lot of fun. Kirk thank you for those thoughts I do have access to an inversion table and I will be looking at that once I heal a little bit more, I really enjoy your how to videos and all your insights on bow building from what I see you make one hell of a bow. Cheers my friends we’ll talk soon ! Bryan 😊

look into the acupuncture thing bro. its not a hocus pocus deal like some people think. it really helps stimulate healing and circulation Ibuprofen helps with inflammation a lot, but doesnt do much for that nerve pinch pain..... Be patient and It will work out for you. It took about 6 weeks before of this therapy before i started getting back to somewhat normal activities. Kirk
