I tell ya what. This is a high quality glove that’s for sure! Someone brought up American Leathers and I had been shooting the Crossover off and on for years and the thing hardly wears. I love my Eichler tab, but wanted to try the glove again. I got the Big Shot in elk leather and maaan is it sweet. I can feel the string just enough and it is soft. The crossover you cannot feel it hardly at all like a thicker tab. Really going to enjoy this glove especially after breaking it in! I will be using it this fall no doubt. And that new leather smell!
-
I like mine,it's a lot lighter in color than yours.
I just got off the phone with Lori, ordered a full shot deer hide. It's getting here Friday!
-
They're well made gloves and hold up really well. I use some conditioner to keep the keather soft. The only issue I have with my Big Shots is they tend to develop a really bad crease in the stalls after a few months of shooting which make it almost impossible to get a clean release.
-
I have a few Big Shot/Slick Shots and have been shooting/hunting with them for probably 20 years. I have no issue what so ever getting a clean release. Never have with the 9 that I have owned. I finally wore my origional one out, gave away 2 to friends of mine, and a couple to hunters that were in camp with me.
I still have 4, but they aren't going anywere. Got enough to last my life time if they ever quit making them.
-
My Kangaroo Krossover will be ten years old this October. Still holding up and has shown only some discoloration to the leather but no wear. They build quality gloves that last.
-
I have had my crossover for probably a decade and it still shoots the same. I don’t expect this to get any creases either. Now every Duraglove and ABS deer skin one I’ve had sure did. Time will tell! I will probably need to get one more though just in case. Hate to think how many tabs I’ve lost after I kill, gut, or drag a deer. At least this I can Velcro to my quiver if I wanted.
-
Best glove I've ever owned bar none. :readit:
-
Definitely a superior product. Have an Elk Big shot with dark brown leather and a modified Kangaroo Crossover, with mid layer of Buffalo. Gloves are great for heavy bows and extended shooting sessions, but tabs have my heart for hunting. Both are real nice shooting gloves, almost enough to pull me away from my nylon tab. Almost! Have Bodnik Speed glove and Black glove, as well. Lifetime worth of finger protection!!!

Wow, this is the least amount of post I've ever seen on an American glove thread. They are the best by far, end of story. Break in schmakin you don't need a break in just start shooting and killing stuff and quit worrying about knit picking .

IMHO, the Crossover Kangaroo WITHOUT the plastic zip tie inserts in the finger stalls is the finest shooting glove ever made. I have a Buffalo crossover and the Elk glove with the nylon on the outside also but they never get used. For me, they pale in comparison exponentially to the Kangaroo glove as mentioned above.

Hear, hear!!!

Thought I'd bring this back around for a new crowd

I like to look of that big shot. I bought a duraglove. But the are stitched along the sides of your fingers. Making the glove tips flat as they get closer to their stitching. So there seems to be extra material sticking off the gops of your fingers. I do think it might be too small for me, do I use the tan most of the time. I can get that finger to anchor easier. Maybe I should use the glove more to try a break it in maybe. Maybe I wouldn’t feel it was sized wrong. But I like the way they have the material stitched on the big shot from those pictures. The material goes from top, around the tips and then along the bottom with finger sides stitched on more or less. Looks like your fingers would fit easier
-
How long do most feel it takes to break in most gloves?
-
The bigshots don't really need breaking in.
-
The Two Bobnik gloves (Speed and Black) and they were ready day 1. But I don't see them lasting as long as the American Leather gloves. American Leather Big Shot may have taken a couple dozen arrows to smooth out. The Crossover Kangaroo with a mid-layer of buffalo, took less than that. The kangaroo might be the last glove I buy. One thing that I told my boss in retail, "I won't push a produce that I would not buy." As you can see American Leather has my vote and my money. Life is too short to shoot a poorly built and functioning glove.

These these things are so comfortable and last forever. I found the Holy Grail years ago. :readit:
-
I shoot about every day and still going strong! These gloves are great and Terry said it right really no break in.
-
Big Shot elk is nice. Really like the modified Kangaroo glove without plastic. And I'm a die hard tab shooter!!!
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :campfire:

I use the full shot. The first one I got was off the St. Judes auction and was used. Bought a new one several years later and last year I bought my 3rd one... after 5 years! In my opinion they ARE the best made glove! Period!!!
-
So it’s the big shot. But different models. I didn’t know if the leather itself needed breaking in. But I guess not. It has the slick surface like the glove I have. But these big shot gloves you guys are showing me has more form fitting finger tips than mine. Maybe mine is a size too small. I have a hard time getting my fingers in it. I think I’d like the hloves I see here. Is the sizing accurate?
-
Yeah just looked on three rivers. I se the big shot elk glove there. I got the dura-glove. But fingers too tight
-
Follow the recommended sizing.

Ordered my first Big Shot today. This should be interesting, I've been a tab shooter for years and could never find a glove I liked. I figure if this one doesn't do it for me then maybe I'm just a tab guy after all. :archer2:

Like the discussion on the "process" to help others arrive at their best choice. That is what it is all about. Also, the tips on how to maintain a good glove, or tab. Really can't go wrong with American leathers. Well worth the cost.

For me these gloves really shine at the upper end of your poundage range/limit. When I'm shooting the heavier bows in my stable I appreciate the added/extra finger protection these gloves provide. Also, as I have probably drilled into the dirt, for when I am doing extended shooting, or shooting until my body can't any longer. The finger protection that American Leathers gloves provide is excellent.

John Turner, owner of American Leathers passed away recently. I believe he passed away yesterday morning.
-
I heard that as well.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
That is some truly sad news. In addition to starting American Leathers he also was the founder of Idaho Traditional Bowhunters. Thoughts and prayers for his wife Lori and their family. :campfire:
-
Yes, Lori called me yesterday. Sad.
God Speed to the Turner family. :campfire:
-
I just got off the phone with Lori and they are going to continue with the business as John would want she said. Good news as the legacy will live on. :clapper:
-
That is some good news Terry. It is reminiscent of Teresa Asbell when Fred passed.
Thank goodness for these fine and strong women. :campfire:
-
That is both sad news and good news.
The Bigshot Crossover is my favorite shooting glove, and I have tried many.
-
I recieved my first Big Shot Elk glove two weeks ago. I've been a tab shooter for years because I couldn't find a glove I liked, and I tried a lot.
I've been shooting the Big Shot for a couple of weeks now and I think I've finally found my glove. It far exceeds any glove I've ever shot. So glad I finally tried one.
My expensive tab may now be my backup. :archer2:
-
I have both the Bigshot Elk and the modified Kangaroo Crossover with Buffalo layer. It is indeed great news to hear to company will continue. Great product, super people. Some of the best finger protection out there. Wishing all the best!

Just got some Carbon Express arrows back from fletcher, I never have luck fletching skinny arrows being a wood shooter, and the first ten had 8 one at a time, on a dime sized dot and 2 about 1/2" out. I'm not saying it was the AL glove, but anyone who has seen me shoot knows it probably wasn't me!!!
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :campfire:

I recently got a Buffalo Crossover, with the plastic inserts. Took me a couple of weeks to get used to it. Tried my old glove for two shots, then went back to the Buffalo Crossover. I like it a lot, and wondered how I ever shot with the old glove!
-
I can't tell you how many times I've heard that, and how many have bought one of mine after shooting with it.
-
I bought a Kangaroo Krossover in May and really like it. I just ordered an Elk Krossover in tobacco, and I'm certain that will be great too. Very well made.
-
Might be interested in trying one of these…Are the inserts in the krossovers removable and how does the krossover compare as far as “string feel” to the big shot with the nylon?
Thanks, Rick
-
Don't believe the nylon inserts are removable. They now also have an option of a layer of buffalo leather in place of the nylon for the kangaroo, as least. This is something that was requested as an option prior to it catching on and being offered. Personally, I think it is an excellent choice. Normally, I shoot a nylon faced tab, but for extended sessions of multiple dozens of shots I'll opt for a glove.

I had the opportunity to try a friends Bigshot, with the nylon finger tips. I liked the glove, although I wanted less string feel, so ordered the Crossover with the plastic inserts. I get very little string feel, and that is what I wanted. Before they offered different options in the crossover, I had read about some sending them back in to get the plastic inserts removed, or leather inserts added, so they probably could be removed. They offer different leather options for the glove, and several options for the inserts.
-
OK, Thanks for the info guys
-
All I've ever had is just the nylon. I don't see a need for plastic stalks at all for me.
What are the plastic stalls for?
-
I have the Bigshot, as mentioned before. Good glove. Also, have the modified Kangaroo Crossover with Buffalo leather as the second layer, and can not speak highly enough of this combination.

I like the Bodnik Speed Glove for my heavy (for me) bow. But they just wear out too fast.
-
I like the feel with the Bodnik, but haven't shot it much. When I need a glove the American Leathers Kangaroo Crossover gets the nod 95% of the time, 5% of the time the Elk Bigshot.

So, my buddy acquired a big shot many moons ago from someone. It has elk leather and has a woodland camo where the black neoprene would be. It is neat! Must have been an option years ago.
-
That would be distinctive.

It’s cool

Nice, lighter colored leather, as well. This is front and back of my Elk Big Shot. About a year old.

I shot my buffalo crossover last night with the plastic stalls again, it was ok, but went back to my buffalo crossover I had made with an extra layer of leather instead of the plastic inserts. I've been looking real hard at the full shot, but not sure how I'd like the feel of the nylon.

I have a full shot, and like it. The leather is deer skin so it's much softer than the others.
-
The Big Shot with nylon finger tips is very smooth. Not sure if that is due to me shooting a nylon faced tab. But the glove shoots nice.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
Finally got a big shot. Fingers fit inside the glove perfectly. It’s much more natural and comfortable than the dura glove
-
You will not be disappointed. This is the Mercedes of shooting gloves.
