If you were left stranded and alone indefinitely, what would be your broadhead of choice?
-
I'd have to say one of the 2 blades at least one that could be resharpened a bunch of times. I always liked the original Grizzly's but I'd opt for one of their wider versions for the reasons mentioned above.
-
Zwickey Delta 2 blade  :archer:
-
I’d have to go with my German Kinetic heads!!!!
Bisch
-
Ace
-
Zwickey- either delta or eskimo, no question.
-
Tough question .. I would have to go with the 125 or 145 gr glue on Eclipse broadhead.
-
160gr Ace
-
Ace super express
-
Zwickey eskimo, but am new to Ace standards and liking them.
-
Zwickey 4 blade...easy sharpen...stout bleeders for cutting and main blades for killin
-
190 grain Cutthroats
-
Tuff Heads, high carbon stainless steel. Never rust, holds an edge. Use them over and over.
-
300 grain 1 1/4” VPA 3 blade
-
Zwickey Delta either 2 or 4 blade
-
Simmons Landshark
-
For me, without a doubt it would be the Flying Hatchett, better known as the Zwickey 4 Blade Black Diamond Delta. This Broadhead have never failed me.
Tony
-
Iron will 2-blade.
-
Zwickey No Mercy for sure
-
Ace
-
A big 200 ACE, you can flip flap jacks with it, skin with it, shave with it, and is easy to sharpen.
-
160 or 190 gr Ribtek, no longer made.
-
Ace....but in a survival situation I would always be looking for things to make more broadheads. Steel strapping, etc. Heck, I know a guy who makes a pretty serviceable head by hammering out a spoon.
-
Ace.
-
Zwickey Delta.
-
SHARKS
-
Cutthroat single bevel 190 grain glue on. No doubts, no regrets.
-
Have to agree with John, 160 or 190 grain Ribtek. I have never damaged one.

Are these suggestions survival broadheads or just your favorite? :dunno:

Zwickey 4 Blade.

Survival...ww's are hands down my favorite
-
Bear Razorheads they have lasted for this long they would be great in a survival situation , you could sharpen them on a rock if you had to, and use two or four blade.
-
Are these suggestions survival broadheads or just your favorite? :dunno:
Good question Pat. My favorite broadhead would not be my choice for survival.
-
Grizzly broadhead.
-
Grizzly Instinct three-blade. They are strong enough to use and re-use many times. They are also easy to get shaving sharp.
-
I guess it 's how you would interpret the question, if I had nothing else but a broadhead, no knife, no Bow it would be the ACE 200, if I had other equipment it would still be the ACE 200.
-
I've been a avoiding the question because I really don't think I have a good answer. Of the broadheads I shoot I'd guess the Magnus Stinger would hold up as well as any. Solid two blade 150 with no bleeder.
-
Do I only get one package of them?
Or just lifetime supply of one type/brand?
Answer would be different depending on arrow choice or availability too.
Wood arrows….anything from Zwicky, Ace or old school Magnus.
Carbon…Bearpaw Jagers (I love stingers and killed lots of stuff with them but these have better metal than stingers), IronWills (impressed so far) original German Kinetics (newer ones have…issues…at least based on super premium price point)

I agree with that, my favorite is the big Snuffer, but for survival as stated above my pick would be the single bevel Cutthroat which I use enough to be comfortable with that choice.
-
VPA 3 blade 1 1/2 300 gr. Kill the animal with it then u got 3 blades to skin the animal with
-
I still like the Bear greenheads.
-
Magnus II, glue on, 2 blade, 125 grain.
-

Yes, my favorites are the Snuffer, VPA, and Grizzly Instinct. For indestructability I'd lean heavily on the heavy Ribtek.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
Probably a 3 blade VPA. If you only a had one, the 3 blade is super strong. Might go for the short stubby version. Although if you didn’t have access to a file or super flat surface, a 2 blade Ace might be a better choice. I bet I could sharpen the larger heads with a stone that I could find.
-
I guess anything I would be able to sharpen with a rock and fix to the shaft without glue, so I'm leaning here on a solid trade point.
-
Never shot them but possibly a Abowyer single bevel.
-
X2 Smokin Joe. Having shot 3 blades all my life, the Grizzly Instinct is the ultimate.
-
Yes, the question was obviously that you would have a bow and arrows. If not, I would have asked what survival knife. :campfire:
-
Wensels 'n' wood. :goldtooth:
-
Delta
-
I know it said broadhead, which mine would be a Bear razorhead (a favorite). But for a survival arrow and point, I'd have to go with a bowfishing point. Fish and small game are more plentiful than other things. Many have huge barb to prevent game/fish loss, and can take a bounce off a rock or two without trashing it. Most bowfishing have a way to recover the arrow by string vs launching an arrow and the game runs away or overshoot and it sails away.
-
2 blade Delta
-
1 piece cast 1.5 inch wide 2 blades at 2.5 inches long.
-
Zwickey Eskimo 2 blade
-
160 grain STOS two blade
-
Zwicket Delta or No Mercy, two or 4-blade. Or a STOS two blade, or a Hunter's head, or a Hill head or a Woodsman. So many good choices. I would be satisfied with any one of them.
-
Grizzly
-
MAYBE,a Tuffhead original
-
I too like to one piece cast big 2 blade. That would probably be the most practical head. Stronger than a laminate, easy to sharpen on a rock, and could serve as a skinning too if need be.
-
Zwicky's all day long.......
Have a few old Magnus heads that would get used up....
As well as a few Grizzlies
Until they are all gone....
-
Survival and go to head Ace 160.
Pappy
-
Any ACE broadhead then an original tuffhead
-
Hunter's Head, originally by John Schulz, 11/32", 160 gr. double bevel two blade with 3:1 ratio L:W
-
DELTA
-
Glad to see the Zwickey selected by many of you-- as advertised, it is the world's best broadhead. They have served me well for over 50 years.
-
I hear ya Ronald, they have been my favorite head far and away for over 30 years. I chose a different head however for survival.
-
Tooth of the Arrow 4 Blade solid series.
One piece machined steel, holds an edge well, and fly true.
-
For woodies, I would stick to Abowyer Wapitis. I have had good luck with them in the past.
The heads made recently show a better grind and better overall quality than those of just a few years ago.
I got a handful their screw-on 200gr Bone Heads to tip some Day Six shafts for my recurve, just in case my ASL doesn't make it here in time for the next hunting opportunity.

What I would choose is not my favorite, but would work well. A solid three blade like a 300 grain 1 1/2” VPA. Even the 1 1/4” 300 or 250 grain 3 blade VPA. My favorite is a cut on contact 4 blade like a z delta 4 or a Magnus 4 blade.
-
Zwickey Eskimo 125 grain with glued-in threaded adapter, so the adapter can be removed to use on other type of arrows.
-
Good solid two blade would probably be the best option. Without a good sharpening tool.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
Given my draw weight, Snuffer...
-
It would have to be one of my forged arrow heads that I have tortured tested and easy to attach to any kind of shaft even a Dogwood sprouted shaft...tippit

I am always impressed with whatever you build Tippit. Beautiful heads

-
Jeff, is that a 1 x 6 board?
-
It is and hard wood too. When I used to give one away on St Judes, I had the highest percentage of kill shots of any broadhead manufacture in the US. Then one guy missed and my percentage plummeted. It takes as long to forge a broadhead as to forge a knife...getting weight and spin balance correct.
-
I killed 14 deer with one DZ4, and ALMOST lost in at Solana on a boar hog.... so I retired it at 15 kills.
Great story here too....
Was invited back in the day over to someone's house to shoot bows at the season was about to start. They were asking my what kind of Bhead I was using as they were using the popular replaceable of the day.
I proceeded to take my 1st shot with a ZD4 and I shot thought their Bhead target and the point was sticking out like your pic above from the 1x6 board he had as part of his 'prop up frame.
Needless to say, they were speechless. :biglaugh:
-
They can be pretty too!

Another vote for Ace Standard 160. :shaka:
