Title: Help me quiet these big Snuffers!
Post by: J. Cook on November 04, 2022, 02:34:55 PM
I have a bunch of the smaller snuffers and love them - being 100 grains with no inserts in them really make them hugely adjustable and I love them.  However, I have a handful of the big 145 grain ones try to set those up every year and every year I get them mounted, spinning as perfectly as I can, and shoot them and there it is... a HUGE loud hiss.

With all the effort we all put into quieting our boys, willingly shooting a super loud broadhead makes no sense to me.  Help me here - what are the tricks you've used to quiet them.

And trust me, they are spinning perfectly true.  I've mounted them to align with the feathers and opposite the feathers and every position between.

Thanks for your tips.

Put a light coat of vasaline or chapstick on the inside of the back edges before you hunt.

Sell them to me. You won’t hear them again plus money in your pocket

X2

But I honestly don't think the hiss matters much. Mine do the same thing, but they don't seem that loud to me. I think this is something that just bothers us more than it matters. If they're flying perfect then I'd go hunting with em.

All my 160 and up have the "Hiss of Death", I haven't had any problems with it and don't worry about it.
It's the last sound that whatever I shoot ever hears.

I read once to file the inside edges to a bevel. If that makes sense. Never tried it though.

Yes, you can also do that, but do so very lightly, you just want to knock that corner off a tad so it won't take many light stroke to do so.
