This Brow Tine model is handled in some elk antler from a local bow hunter’s elk taken on a previous trip to Colorado. As a hunter and conservationist I think often about how blessed we are to live in a place endowed with such beauty from our Heavenly Father and how fortunate we are to have access to wild places and quality hunting opportunities. No doubt there have been thousands of man-hours and millions of dollars in conservation efforts to have made it possible for these animals to still be around for us. Then Steve will have spent a lifetime pursuing game and honing his skills as a woodsman to make harvesting the elk possible. Steve then took great care to preserve every bit of his harvest so that I could use my aptitudes to craft a portion of this animal into a family heirloom for him. When I was working on this knife and when I hold it, I see an awful lot more than a simple cutting tool. I see a part of God’s expression of love through His beautiful creation, the legacy of mankind as it intertwines with nature through the pursuit of hunting, the companionship of a fellow sportsman and personal friendship with Dave who commissioned this piece from me for his Uncle Steve, and the community of my mentors in the craft which helped me hone the skills needed to finish the piece. I am truly blessed to be a part of a few projects like these a year and I really enjoy them. Indeed I did make the sheath. 100% of my work is done in house, by me. No outsourcing. No computers/CNC. No hired hand and me taking the credit. Polk Knives are and always will be a sole authorship product as that is very important to me as a craftsman.

Thanks. It takes a good bit of extra work to carve the hardware to match the bark texture of the antler and remain flush without grinding away the antler in the process but it results in a nice, clean look and you can't feel in the hand where the pin starts and the antler ends.

I didn't notice the first time I looked at this how you made the pin match the texture of the handle. That is really impressive.
