Title: HOWARD HILL CLASSIC, 2023
Post by: T. W. Harris on January 05, 2023, 07:16:41 AM
Folks, the 19th Annual Howard Hill Classic will be a four day event this year.  The dates are June 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2023.  Always held at beautiful Tannehill Historical State Park, www.tannehillstatepark.org  :campfire:

There will be the Championship Shoot Downs on Saturday afternoon, along with Rhonda’s “Luck of the Draw” Shoot Down for those that don’t make the Championship Shoot Down.  Her event is especially for those just getting started in our wonderful sport. :archer2:

You don’t want to miss this year’s event, BECAUSE, you’ll be the first of those that will find out what will be coming for the 20th Anniversary of the Howard Hill Classic, 2024. :clapper:

Much more information to come between now and June folks!

Folks, our traditional archery friend, Randy Knight has gotten 8 traditional bows from Maddog Bows.  Four youth boys bow at 20 lbs and four for youth girls at 15 lbs.

We don't know yet how these bows will get into their hands, but we certainly would like to get them into hands that don't yet have a bow.

How cool is this, AND how cool is Mr. Randy Knight.

Here are the Championship Shoot Down formats:
Of course, this year’s event starts on Thursday, so, the first round card still has to be turned in before you get another card if you’re trying to qualify for Saturday’s Shoot Downs.  All first round cards have to be turned in by 2 PM on Saturday.

The Men’s Longbow & Recurve along with the Women’s Longbow & Recurve will again be combined.  This part of the Championship Shoot Down is sponsored by Traditional Bowhunter Magazine and the American Traditional Archer. We’ll take the top 10 shooters scores from both of the men’s longbow and recurve shooters and the top 10 of the women’s longbow and recurve shooters, a total of 20 shooters for each shoot down.  The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will come from those combined 20 shooters from the men and women.   :archer2:

We’ll take the top 10 shooters from the Men’s Seniors and the top 10 of the Men’s Super Seniors, all then will compete against one another.  The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will come from these combined 20 shooters.

The Men’s Self Bow Shooters, we’ll take the top 10 shooters as well.  The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will come from these 10 shooters.

THEN, the three winners from the Shoot Downs will compete for the American Traditional Archer “Top Shot” award.  One for the Men and one for the Women.   :archer2:

Folks, I know the 19th Howard Hill Classic, traditional archery event is only 15 days away, BUT, as I've said, we're already planning on the 20th Anniversary in 2024.

As a matter of fact, our friend Randy Knight is already hard at work having something very special for all the adult winners, as well as, the Top Shot winners.  Get a load of one of just many that will be made before the 20th Anniversary Howard Hill Classic.

Trust me when I say this, the 20th Anniversary will be OUTSTANDING!!

I'd like to mention that I will also be raffling off a Custom Longbow from Big Jim's Bow Co. at the Howard Hill Classic, traditional archery event.  Where, Tannehill Historical State Park in McCalla, Al.  When, June 1, 2, 3 &4, 2023.

All proceeds from the raffles I will be having goes to the Scout Camp I also use to put my Target Course on.

Over the last 18 years, I have proudly been able to raise a give over $55,000.00 to this Camp as well as some going to the Wounded Warrior Project and Children's Harbor of Alabama.

This was made possible because of such Vendors as Big Jim's Bow Co., Bears Archery, Three Rivers Archery, Black Widow Bows, Northern Mist Longbows, Bivouac Bow Co., Fred & Teresa Asbell and many, many others.

Spoke with Neil Byce, Bear Archery, they will be here early Friday morning.

And speaking of Bear Archery, they will again provide the two 1st Place Winers of Rhonda's "Luck of the Draw" Shoot Down for non-qualifiers competing for the Championship Shoot Down.

The winners will receive their choice of either a bear "Grizzly" recurve or a Bear "Montana" longbow.

Second & third place winners will receive cash prizes.

Folks, we've already starting our preparations for our extended traditional archery family.
We'll be more than ready by the time the range opens Thursday morning at 6 am.

Let me also add that most of y'all know that I am not a club, and I am so fortunate that I have a small group of unbelievable friends that help me set up and take down the Howard Hill Classic.

I am truly blessed.

I've never been to a trad shoot of any kind. Planning on getting to this one about 9 AM in the morning (Sat)  Is there a protocol to where you go first? Think anyone would have a spine tester I could check the spine on a cedar arrow with? Do they allow spectators at the 3D shoots? Going into this blind lol.

Protocol first is to have a great time, and you will. At the check in station they will point you towards the shoot where spectators are allowed, someone could have a spine tester just don't count on it. You will have a blast, Terry is a great person to help with any question you have (but a very busy person) who puts an awesome shoot together with a lot of help from others sorry i'm not there, shoot straight.
