Mine is zebra/cocobolo made for buddy who is an amazing hunter and friend. I did red cedar veneers because he does incredible European mounts that he commingles shaved red cedar with.

Zebra wood and padauk with a yew core, wenge and maple accents. Bamboo back and belly. It came out a bit heavy and took some set, but I like it. 😁

Just finished up “Rattlin’ Ruby” at Christmas time. Hickory stave cut last April from my Wisconsin woodlot, and dressed with a couple Prairie Rattlers from South Dakota. Nock tips from a whitetail taken a couple years ago on my farm. The leather grip from a Wyoming mule deer. Trimmed in mule deer back sinew and she draws 45# at my 27” draw. I recurved the last 8-10” of limb tips so she shoots smooth and hits where I look (usually😳). String came from Linda Brackenbury in Bend, OR. Besides being a nice shooting bow I like how the Keda Dyed ruby limbs showed through the snakeskin. Anyway, my favorite…for now!

Wow! Favorite build? That will take some thought…..and there might be a couple I would enter as my most interesting or challenging….
This one was a lot more intense to build than a guy would think. Brandon Stahl from Rose Oak Archery sent me a set of cutters and told me to give the pierce point riser a try. (He was a great guy) The mill work was pretty intense just putting the riser together, and shaping the riser just right gives the pattern in the strike plate….seriously intense work by hand….
So I’d have to post this one first.

This one is hands down the most labor of love intensive bow I’ve ever built. It’s also the most expensive one too….price out a snake wood riser block sometime. This one has snakewood under clear glass spliced veneers, and a bit of artwork too.

That's stunning, amazing work. One question I do not understand I guess. Why the blind limb mounts instead of a one piece? I don't see the reason.
-
I spent some time trying out winding laminations for risers. Too time/labor intensive to pursue, but I do like some of the effects that are possible. Here are two, the second is a lady’s bow.

They go in a suit case while traveling….but look like a one piece when assembled.

One I made few years ago. That Waterfall Bubinga veneers look stunning under clear glass.

This one of my favorites. Built it for a donation for the South Dakota Bowhunters banquet a few years back. Wish I would've taken more pics of it.

I have done a lot of those over the years, and it’s real challenging to grain match all the limb butts to the center overlay and get all the wedges and lams lining up at the connection. But…. That’s what makes it look like a one piece bow.
I charge an extra $150 for the full overlay flush limb pocket option on my bows. Then I charge another $100 for the blind limb mounts running the limb bolts internally. That helps cover the extra time invested.
Don’t see too many guys doing it out there either…. Carry on bro… ya do nice work. Kirk

That’s very nice Roy. That held its curves well.

Looks like somebody misplaced their putter and put a bow up instead

This is one of my favorite builds. It's osage from Osage Outlaw, 60" t/t, with cow sinew and water snake backing pulls about 56#@26". The recurves(my most dramatic) I used dry heat and oil to bend and the belly cracked so I used yew underlays to support the recurves. The rest of the stuff in the pic was my hunting kit...

Very nice, Pat. How wide are the limbs on that bad boy?
Mark
-
Probably close to 2". As short as the working part of the limbs are I gave it a little more width than usual.
-
Nice bow, sweet lines braced and drawn!

Thanks Joel.

Not the best picture. But probably this one. It was a major PITA to get right. But it shoots well. I can’t remember the prober name but it’s a an Osage double bow with a string bridge.

I had a little osage limb that I cut in 1996 and it had been in the rafters of the garage until 2020 when I decided to work it. The growth rings were like 30+ per inch and it was really knobby, so I planed the back flat and backed it with bamboo using the perry reflex technique. The limb was narrow and only about 58" long, but it made a very nice little bow that is still my favorite of all the 100+ I have made. The bamboo is dyed with leather dye, it has a matte finish, and the grip is deerskin. Finished at 54#. Holds about 2" of reflex after being shot in.

Love the looks of this bow! Curious about your draw length and whether there’s a cut in shelf?
Outstanding!

Jon,
The bow measures 54@26", but it will draw to 27", which is my normal draw length. The tips to not ahve standard string grooves because it was so short. I used pin-shape tips to hold the string like a west-coast style native bow. There are little cocobolo hooks on the pins to prevent the string form slipping off if someone drew it past 27", which is where the angle of the string and the tip is 90 degrees.
There is no cut-in shelf. The grip is fairly narrow and I made a small shelf about half an arrow diameter from built up leather under the grip.

Thats a great looking little bow Matt  The tip design sounds interesting, you have a close up pic by chance?

This is the only one I had on my phone that shows the tip. I really like the pin nocks and I am surprised we don't see more of them. I have used them on selfbow recurves too. Very easy to make and very easy to string and unstring.
-
No where near as cool as your pin nocks Flntknp, but here is one I used on a 48” kid’s bow. I wanted the limbs short for a kid but wanted to use every inch of limb length to keep the draw weight down. So, I came up with this and reinforced with phenolic because the tips and limbs were so thin.

That is perfect! I really like the pins and will keep using them.

These are all amazing, something for me to aspire to. Awesome work guys.

Greetings all from Australia.
Favorite build to date was a 60" recurve inspired by the earlier Black Widows.
Came in at 40# at 29", 0.245" total stack with 40thou brown glass. Shoots better than I can!
