Title: Ideas for this stave?
Post by: Burnsie on June 28, 2023, 12:02:27 AM
I have chased a ring on this stave - it has a knot hole that might be something interesting to work into the bow, but it's out close to the one end. Any ideas if the knot can be worked around? If I cut the stave off right at the bottom of the knot I still have 65.5" of nice straight stave, so not all is lost if it doesn't work out.

That's a cool knot. Too bad it is so close to the end. Where it is will make it difficult to get both limbs balanced while tillering. Osage Outlaw(Clint) gave me a similar stave. I ended up cutting the knot off and built a static recurve with the stave and gave the cutoff to Clint and he made a cool ax handle with it.

I agree with Pat.  Cut the knot off and make something special from it!

Yep, I think the knot is going to have to go.
I'll do some thinking on something cool I might be able to do with the knot?
Thanks guys

I tried that one time on a glass backed bow and drilled several holes in the limb just for fun both top and bottom.  :biglaugh: I called it “the whistler” ….It made some pretty strange noise before the fiberglass finally split… one of those “ I wonder what will happen” experiments… :biglaugh:   I don’t think I’d recommend it… kirk
