I have been hunting less often from trees so I’m going to sell my saddle setup. I’ve been just sitting on my pack but I want to be comfortable from now on. I’ve decided on the pac seat but can’t decide on the regular or turkey version. I live in the mountains so I’m climbing steep hills and worried the regular seat will be cumbersome. Like clipping my heels or snagging. Anyone have experience with these that would be willing to share your experience? Thanks.
-
I’ve had the regular version for 4-5 seasons and it’s one of the best hunting purchases I’ve made. I live and hunt in steep mountains also, and I can’t ever remember an issue with it snagging or hitting my legs. I’ve only seen photos of the turkey version, but it seems really low to me for all around use. I’d also suggest getting the attachable game bag—it basically becomes a built in pack that stays put and doesn’t get in the way.
-
Interesting. Glad to hear that. Do you trample through rhodo or mtn laurel thickets with it? I wouldn’t think it would snag anymore than my pack with sticks and platform attached but thought I would ask.
-
Yes, that’s exactly the terrain I hunt in. I’m in NE TN near the VA / NC border, so probably the same landscape that you hunt in. To me, the Pacseat is much less cumbersome than climbing sticks and stands. Heck of a lot lighter too
-
That seat is the cats meow! So comfy it allows you to sit still which is key. A true hunting design. Well worth the money.
-
Radford, they are still making the same seat with the same materials. As far as I know, they are still building the David quality as always.
They have had a great following here and Dave told me years ago that becoming a Sponsor here really kicked off his buisiness. The company has sold and everything is still the same from what I understand.
-
Love that chair! Very comfy
-
I have the seat and love the idea of it-
I’m a bigger person and I feel like it wants to cut me right at the knees when sitting. Makes my legs fall asleep.
Has anyone here had the same issue?
I called the company and they said they were working on a fix, but I have not seen anything yet.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Josh

I’d maybe add a cushion to raise your self a bit which should keep that from happening in mean time. Doesn’t have to be a real thick one but one to level out the butt and knees if that makes sense.
-
Yes, I have long legs and that’s exactly what I do. It’s a small cushion from an old treestand. I wedge it in between the folded frame for carrying and it works great
-
I've got the turkey version and absolutely love it. It can also be used to pack out meat by swinging the seat out on the back side.
-
Regular for me. And I added leg extensions made it 1 1/2”taller. Can sit 4 hours with no issues, other than staying awake !
-
You can just lean it against a tree on a steep slope. Just don’t open the legs !! Do it all the time.
-
Yes, I agree with Ron. You just change the lean angle against the tree. If you can stand on the slope you can set the seat up on the slope
-
I am thinking of get one.
-
If the wind should change direction on you...very easy and quiet to reposition to the other side of the trail. So easy to hang a small backpack on it.
Best chair I've owned. I've seen a couple ads for people looking to buy a used one. HAHA good luck with that.
-
Works great and very mobile, as mentioned. Move when the breeze does. Plus, I can use it as a pack frame to haul camp in for a weekend.

-
Ron, can you explain how you did the leaf pattern?
Thank you
-
I've been using the Waldrop packseat for a number of years now and it is the best chair that I have found for deer and turkey hunting. When I am using small pack, I attached the pack to the packseat and use the packseat shoulder straps. When I use a larger pack, instead of attaching it to the packseat, I carry my pack on my back and sling the packseat over my shoulder with a sling I rigged up. I use a folding camp cushion with it.
-
The leaf was a stencil I made myself, just from a piece of cardboard.
-
Are any of you changing out the shoulder straps? They are just a single unpadded nylon strap . I put a old set of straps from a Camp Trails backpack on mine and much prefer it.
-
I had one on the hammock seats a while back. While it is light and packs up small the one I had was noisy, meaning the material it was made from was noisy. Hopefully they have fixed that issue with them. I keep looking at the packseats, one of these days I’ll probably get one. I’d have one if they took PayPal but that’s not an option.
-
I bought the low down hammock seat and received it on Friday. After two or three try’s I think it will work well as long as the material quiets down. It’s too noisy for longbow hunting.
-
If you use just the shoulder straps on chair I did have it clip my heel of boot or catch going through rough stuff or over deadfalls. The fix I added from an army navy surplus a molle waist belt to chair as well as shoulder straps and that fixed it right up. Can use as improvised pack frame now.
-
Anyone actually use the Packseat to pack out game? I have the Millinium Tree seat that is light and very comfortable, but , I keep finding spots I want to hunt and feel the Packseat would be a better option. I’m looking at hunting packs but wondering if the Packseat would do both.
-
Hey Mike. I have the original seat, so it doesn’t convert to a packing shelf, but it is definitely comfortable with some weight in it. I have loaded the game bag up for some all day cold sits here in the mountains with jackets, food, drinks, my Simmons quiver mounted on it, etc. I never weighed it but I’m guessing I’ve had at least 20lbs of stuff in the sack and it’s plenty comfortable walking these steep hills. I tried connecting various packs and haversacks to the frame, but found that just using the game bag as a pack works better for me. Highly recommend them. I’ll bring it on our next hunt if you want to check it out…
-
I have used the pack seat as a pack frame, leashed hammock, camping gear, extra clothing for a couple day hog hunt. Roughly 5-6 mile hike in and bring heavy duty garbage bags to haul out hog meat/quarters or just prime cuts. Have the game bag and that helps.

I absolutely LOVE mine!

Michael, yes if you are down this way sometimes please bring the chair. It would be nice to try one before purchasing. Thanks.
-
I had him make me one in a larger size cause I’m fat. It’s comfy and definitely one of the best options out there. I’ve since lost my place to hunt.
-
love my waldrop,, but!!!! twice the hunt started fine until I woke up after dark spooked out of my boots because until your brain wakes up you have no idea where you are..... :shaka:
-
Ted , I’ve dozed quite a bit in a Millinium tree seat , woke up wondering where I’m at.
Can’t say I’ve ever fell asleep in a tree stand , which is probably a good thing.
I placed an order for a Packseat a couple days ago. Was told about 2 1/2 weeks for delivery ( powder coating vender had been down ) anyway I started to order one last year but glad I waited. Price is lower and seems they made a couple of improvements, better shoulder straps and the seat folds out the back to make a shelf making it more “ pack “ friendly. Looking forward to putting it to use this fall.
-
I think it's pretty intriguing! I too have the Millennium seat and it works well, but I like the idea of the Waldrop too. I won the seat though so I didn't exactly choose one or the other lol.
Jason Samkowiak did a review on the Waldrop recently too. He did rave about it!

I haven’t hunted out of mine yet—just arrived a week or so ago. So take my thoughts for what they’re worth. But it’s well designed and well made—not to mention very light. I always hunt with a backpack, and it’s a cinch to attach one to the pacseat. I’ve also found it very easy to shoot my bow from while seated. Easy to shoot while carrying it on your back too. Looking forward to using it this fall.

The new ones do have a fold down pack our frame shelf.
-
Ugggg..the wait is killing me! :knothead:
-
Me too. They told me two weeks but it's been almost three and I haven't heard anything.

I have hunted with Daves seat for few years now. Like everyone else said, over the Decades of using all kinds of chairs, this is by far the best in my opinion. It is light, portable, quiet and comfortable, I sat on few all day hunts with it. It is easily customizable, through a pack on it or side quiver. I added a pack, with few PVC painted ground brush stakes, a ground stake for bow holder, then my dressing kit. I am ready to go anywhere at anytime. The only thing I would change on it, would be actual shoulder packing straps, which I did, but other than my bow, my favorite hunting tool. Great for camping, bonfire, cookouts too. Just do not let spouse or others sit in it, lol.
-
Been using one for a couple years works great it is comfortable and packs nice practice shooting with it.
-
I have used one for over 5 years now, great chair. Is one of the better investments for hunting that I have made in a number of years. Very well made and comfortable for a few hour sit.
-
Of all the gear Ive purchased over the years, the pack seat has delivered above expectations!
I have found I can adjust its angle and change the "pressure" areas, either leaned or set on rear leg.
Never had isues with it hitting me while walking or legs falling asleep.I'm 6'3 and 260lbs.
-
Like I mentioned a few posts back I purchased the low down hammock seat. So far I’m not very happy with it. It’s really difficult to get just right. Wishing I had gone with the pac seat. It’s such a pain not being able to try one out. They are so expensive I’m afraid if it doesn’t work for me I’ll be out even more than the hammock seat.
Really enjoying everyone’s opinions about the pac seat.
-
The pacseat is without a doubt the best piece of gear I’ve bought in years it truly is worth every penny.
-
Received mine a few days ago. I didn't get to hunt this weekend but I did play with it in the yard. I'm going to like it. Taking a trip to the national forest next week so I'll spend some time with it. It's just the ticket for the kind of roaming I like to do.
-
Anyone have the turkey version? I think that would be the one that I would like to get. I enjoy being low to the ground.
Also, there were several post on this thread that spoke about the quality of the seat going down since ownership changed. Now those post are not on the thread. Did a moderator delete them for some reason? That is useful information for a potential purchaser. That would be a shame if that is what happened. I hope Tradgang wouldn't do that to protect their sponsors. It's just an opinion after all.
-
I don't see any reason to purchase the Turkey version when the original will work, just fine.

If you decide you don't like your pacseat I'm sure there are plenty here that will be glad to take it off your hands.

Received my seat today! Really nice addition to the hunting kit for sure. Took it out for the evening hunt and it really lives up to all the hype! I did do a couple of mods before going afield, I removed the waist harness and set it aside, just not needed for me right now. I also removed the buckles from both shoulder straps, I found that in backyard trials every time I un-shouldered it, the snap\ buckles hit the frame making a !KLINK! noise..so I removed the buckles and made my own setup for silent adjustment of the shoulder straps, and the hunt this evening with it proved noiseless and comfortable.I also removed the buckles connecting the chest strap, and just use the chest strap fed through the remaining buckle loop in a simple loose knot..simpler and no klick..
-
My kit\pack attached to the Pac seat, and camo netting stowed..
-
Interesting about the buckles, I have noticed some noise but figured if I was very careful I could avoid it. But you did get me thinking. On my lone wolf and steps I made buckle covers out of the can coozies. The ones you can often get for free or a couple bucks. Anyway just sew a peice of it into a tube that will fit snug over the buckles. Works on the LW buckles should work on the Packseat.
-
I don't see any reason to purchase the Turkey version when the original will work, just fine.
I like to sit low to the ground.
-
My seat actually works a little better than I expected. Not hard to modify it to your needs.

I just recently got a pac seat , trying to get away from tree stands. I have found I huge problem with them, well not really with them but with me. In a tree stand once I’m set I’m there for the duration. With the pack seat it’s so easy to move I find myself moving too much. You know, I think over beside that tree would be better , hey how about in that fallen down tree , dang if I was over there I could see over the hill.
Loving the chair.
