So, I have been shooting broadheads when I practice. No, they do not match the Zwickey's I hunt with, most are old MA3's. Why do I practice with BH's? I don't know just have for so long that's what I do. Do you feel there is any benefit to shooting broadheads for practice vs field points when they don't match what you hunt with? I try to make sure the weights are close to what I hunt with and match arrows up as close as possible. Shooting woods. Arrow Weights are 600-625ish 52 spine, non-center shot SB 59 lbs at 29. I am thinking there isn't any real benefit.

I can tell you this much; my Zwickey Eskimos, while the same exact weight as my field points, do not group in the same spot. Take that for what it's worth. Same batch of arrows, incidentally.

I start shooting only broadheads usually in August every year to get ready for the season. I shoot mostly Zwickey Deltas and Grizzlys. My target arrows have blunts on them and are cut net length, so my broadhead arrows are a little bit longer. I’ve spent a lot of time tuning the arrows, I only shoot wood arrows. Try as I might the blunts do not fly exactly like the broadhead arrows. Close yes but not exactly. Besides it takes just a minute with a file to have the BHs back hunt ready and it’s one less thing to worry with. Especially with wood arrows it’s not uncommon for a really good shooter to start drifting. I can usually put it on an arrow spinner and see were it’s wobbling and fix it easily , but you would not see it if you didn’t shoot it.

I'd venture that the only way there would be an advantage of always practicing with heads would be to use the exact ones you plan to hunt with..on the shafts you are going to take hunting if woodies are what you like..I'm finding that wood shafts have personalities.. So you want to see if you get along with each and every shaft\head combo. And like said above, sometimes wood gets a little mental condition that needs some psychiatric bench time.. :o

I have never had much difference between field points and broad heads. I absolutely shoot my broadheads before deeming them "hunt worthy" but I don't have trouble matching them to practice points.

I shoot broadheads well before season to determine if they shoot like my field points. If so, I generally practice with field points after that, but still shoot broadheads whenever I can.
