Title: Cordovan tab help
Post by: twistedlim on October 10, 2023, 09:42:17 PM
I am looking for a simple cordovan leather tab. Single thickness. I cannot remember if I purchased my last ones at the Kalamazoo show ordered on line. Any help appreciated.

Lost Nation Archery has exactly what you are looking for. Simple and comfortable.

Upon looking that is close, but it is actually 2 pieces of leather sewn together. I am looking for a single thickness of cordovan.

Check with Screaming Eagle Treestands, I know they used to sell them.

I know you are looking for a single layer tab, but I have an option.  I buy the Bateman cordovan tab and modify it.  It is a two layer design, I simply cut the additional layer off.  I have tried it with both layers.  I just feel like I get a better feel on the the string and therefore more control. Hope that helps some.

Another option would be to buy some Cordovan and trace your favorite tab and cut your own. Montana Leather Co. sells a 12" x 24" piece for around $50. You'd have a lifetime supply for less than the cost of two pre-made tabs.

This is what I do to.

Twistedlim, That cordovan tab from Lost Nation is a one piece. The stitching that you see in the picture is a reinforced section where your finger goes through. Where the stitching ends is where the reinforced section ends. The tab itself is one piece of cordovan. I have that tab that I bought from Lost Nation last year. It is a very nice tab.

Twistedlim, I want to apologize. As I examined my cordavan tab a little more closely from Lost Nation my memory became a little more clear. That was a two piece tab and I recall now that I had cut that tab to accomplish what you are loooking for. I left the piece that was stitched so it would be durable in that area where you insert your middle finger. I don' want to be misleading here. Works like a dream. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I may look into buying a sheet and cut them myself. Hopefully they will be thick enough.

I used to make tabs from old work boot tongues.

I use tanned and chromed (one side) leather that's fairly thin.
