Title: Contact wood splitting
Post by: Pine on January 13, 2024, 10:15:21 PM

After seeing a few "Survival experts" on television cut themselves with a hatchet while splitting wood I felt compelled to post this here.
It's very simple and your not going to hurt yourself.
That's important especially if you are in a survival situation.
You just line up the hatchet on the wood like the picture  and smack them both on a log or block of wood.
It's not being a wimp to do things safe. And besides that, this is easiest to do so why try to chop down from the end while holding the wood in your opposite hand.

yup.  I cringe every time I see someone on a youtube vid doing the 'hold til the last second and let go' technique. I make my own maple syrup so I am constantly splitting wood down to small sizes, so I do this technique a lot.
