Title: New knife with engraving
Post by: Sam Harper on January 25, 2024, 03:13:32 PM
There's this guy named Travis Fry (hey, that rhymes!) who makes knives. About a year ago, maybe a little longer, he decided to learn how to engrave. He would post drawings on Instagram, and sometimes he'd do a practice piece. He seemed to be improving really fast, and I wanted to challenge him to take the plunge and engrave a bolster. So I made this knife specifically for him. I told him to just go for it because if he messes it up, it's no big deal. I can just grind it out. I'd still pay him for the effort. But if it worked out, I'd pay him a lot more. Right after I gave him the knife, I ended up getting a job out of state. Since I was going to be out of state for about a year, I told him there was no rush. I still expected him to go for it, but instead, he spent the next several months getting better and drawing and engraving on practice pieces. He got even better. Finally, just recently, he went for it. This was the result.

BTW, the knife is made of M390 with stainless bolsters, desert ironwood scales, and carbon fiber pins.
