635-670 grain tapered, footed POC for my 63-66# bows.  That's just how they shake out with the spine I need and the points I shoot.  I can shoot them from my 68# Bear Grizzly and my 71# Kota longbow, as well.

Usually 550 to low 600 grains. For 48# and 52# bows.

When I was shooting bows around 60 to 65 pounds my hunting arrows were around 600 grains.

On the lighter bows I shoot now 40 to 45 pounds.I shoot around around 500 to 550 grains for my hunting arrows.

I have lighter arrows I play with than the ones above for target shooting and flatter trajectory.

480 grains total - carbon arrow with 145 head on a 55# recurve.
I get complete pass-through on whitetails unless I catch the back side shoulder socket.

175 to 225 heads depending on head and bow weight. Heads 175 to 235, bows 58 to 80#s.

575 to 625 for anything,  not just deer. Bison arrow was 680.  Aquarium tubbing inside.

535 out of 50 to 55 pound bows. Deer,  hogs and javalina.

95% are 3 or 4 blade heads. Wenzel, VPAs, Snuffer, Zephyr Sasquatch, XXL Silver Flame, Centaur Battle Axe, just to name a few. 90% Zwickey Delta 4 blades since the mid 80s.

5% WIDE 2 blades.

I am Irish so I think I know everything but not stupid to believe it, I took some hard lessons from Terry and Patrick on week 3 of the LTR hunt 2024, I seen what those 4 blade Zwickey and Wenzel heads can do and by sit around the table talking about broadheads and looking at dead critters photo and broadhead hole photos I am rethinking my broadheads setup what took away from this hunt is big hole more blood on the ground. and yes I drank the kool aid  :goldtooth:

At the moment, as follows;

75lb longbow;
Around 900 grains all up with 235 grains up front.

65lb longbow;
Around 750 grains all up with 200 grains up front.

55lb longbow;
Around 650 grains all up with 190 grains up front.

All bows are very quiet,
The arrow trajectory doesn't worry me one bit at hunting ranges
And all arrows seem to penetrate quite adequately, pass throughs are not rare.

Hope this helps.

Best
Lex

Terry
I shoot a Kanati long bow. Beman Center Shot 600 spine 30" long 28 1/2" draw. Arrows are 7.0 gpi use a brass 50 gr. Inserts and a 175 VPA 3 blade. 21.5 percent FOC. at about 160 fps. Most shots were at 15 yards. 3 from the ground 1 from a 15 foot tree stand in the last four years. Before that I used Deltas Snuffers and Magnus Stingers. Best blood trails with Vpa. Been shooting bows since 1969.

Thank, and I agree with you on blood trail but must add Z Delta 4 blades as well. Most don't need a trail at all.... just listen for the crash within 30 yard! :biglaugh:

I'll be shooting 500 grain easton axis with VPA 3 blade 1 1/4 out of my new Wessel recurve.

A generous PBS'er is going to show me how to sharpen the Delta 4 blade's as I have a heck of a time with them. Wouldn't mind shooting them either

Bro killed 2-  3.5 year old whitetail bucks a couple years back with a 42@28 - 54" D/R , Beman 500s Centershots with 200 grain VPA on front, right at 500 grains.

One stuck in the dirt and the other slightly quartered, fell out first jump.

He does hunt close , and is real selective on shots.

For bow weight I stay around 55#, arrow weight is usually 625 to 725, depending on what materials, carbon or woods.  I like all my weight up front and usually will find ACE, Grizzly, Abowyer or Tuffhead at the front.
