Post by: blacktailchaser on February 20, 2024, 11:04:22 AM
SO i drew a spring bear tag here in oregon...i will be using one of my liberty longbows...but what i need help with is braodheads...i know bears can soak up alot of blood in the fur...for broadheads i have ACE BROADHEADS that are wide for a bigger hole BUT i am wondering if i should get Grizzly boadheads for more penetration....thanks

Black bears are no harder to penetrate than deer.

I shot a bear with a 45# bow using Ace broadhead and had a complete pass through.

One of the Simmons Sharks would be my first choice.

Shot two bear with two blade broad heads on Surewood shafts. 53# recurve and 48# recurve. Complete pass through with both. Neither bear went more than forty yards. Surewood shafts also. I didn’t need a blood trail on either one.

Stick with your Ace broadheads if they work for you.  I’m a big fan of the Ace Super Express.  It has a large cutting diameter and you can easily get it hair-popping sharp with a Rada and a strop.  Plus you get six for under $10 a piece.
