I got this stave at an estate auction pre coviid. The estate belonged to a gentleman who was neighbors with the Hoyt family. I believe the stave was cut for him by Earl sr. I picked up 4 wooden recurves that day. and 1 fiberglass bow marked Hoyt archery Bridgeton Missouri that could not be found in any of the early catalogs, I think it may have been a one off for this gentleman. I will post pictures as I progress on this bow. Stave cost me $10.

That stave looks straight as a die.

A couple years ago I went to North Carolina to visit James Parker for a week and he had bought a shaper off market place and said lets go get it, This girl had several Hoyt bows in Original cases and piles of pin sites in different stages, you could see from the small machines her father was making them for Hoyt.

Cool stave with some good medicine in it already. Can we see the end grain?

Excellent rings. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this cool piece of archery history.

That’s awesome! Great find. It’ll be interesting seeing what colors will pop out when finish goes on. It looks like the color shift has gone pretty deep over the years.

Yes Kyle, it is pretty dark already.

For us neophyte self bow types, which ring will become the back?
-
The ring next to my index finger or the second one. Both are good rings.
-
The ring that gives you the cleanest back. Usually in my experience the first one you uncover.

Cool stave Dan. I have one of earl hoyts selfbows if you ever want to look at it. Good luck with the stave. Those rings look pretty nice.
