So after a year of trying to be able to shoot again, with my 35# Super Griz I can at 15 yards, first arrow will touch the bottle cap, second arrow will be almost touching the first one and the third arrow will be about 6" to the left on the same elevation.
Pull the three arrows and shoot again. First arrow will be a little high and left, second shot a little further and the third will be over the top in the dirt.
I'm wanting to shoot some 3D this year but with me breaking down my form so quickly, I don't know if I could do it. :dunno:
I do feel confident I could get a good hit on a deer and I have a friend that will help me with the recovery. So I have that going for me.
What do you think?

My wife told me "It's the first arrow that counts " :biglaugh:

She's not wrong.

Smart women...just don't over do it...take what the body will give ya and enjoy

I can relate with the wick burning too fast..I shoot fine when I'm rested and fresh..I'm no target shooter but I shoot every day except Sunday. I usually shoot a couple in between whatever I got going on, leave the bow strung sitting in the garage and whenever the itch grabs me, I just fling a few and move on.. Just want to have everything dialed when I need it in the woods.

Tell Ms. Pine sometimes the first arrow is either a ranging arrow or warning shot :biglaugh:
-
:biglaugh: That's funny right there.
Oh wait, I resemble that remark.

Stick with it and don't rush it.
Last June I got some weird infection in my string hand/wrist and my shoulder got it as well. Couldn't pick up a cup of coffee or a beer w/o using both hands. Couldn't even write my name or anything else without my hand cramping up right away. Not good being an artist. Thought my archery days might be over it was so bad.
After a couple months things were healing but no way I could shoot my Blacktail. Ordered a 30lb(35@30") Black Hunter to start working out with along with a set of rubber bands.
By season I was able to shoot my hunting bow but only 15-20 arrows before fatigue. 2bears knocked a couple pounds off for me and that really helps now, especially as I'm getting older.

To add to the mess, this is my string hand.

This in an example of what happens at 15 yards and three shots.

Love the first two
Either one of those on your deer and you shan't require the third
So glad to see you back bending your bow
Stick with it
Best

It could just be me looking at the pick wrong, but that far out arrow looks to be not so straight. If that is the case then replace it. Having said that, and I'm sure I'll get some flack for this, but if you aren't consistent, then maybe there are better options for taking game. No need to give up trad, just maybe think about the game and make what you feel is the right choice.

Much time remains between now and deer season...also, you may now be confident until prime time.
Go to the 3D range
Work to identify the real causes of your flyers...address those possible issues...often times, the causes are quite simple to correct yet, identifying and making the correction a habit is much more challenging.
Have a competent trad archer work with you to identify and possibly correct...self-diagnosis and assumed corrections has caused many an archer years of lack of improvement... and many never address the problem correctly...a competent mentor may prove invaluable.

Today I shot 12 arrows, 3 and then pull them.
This was about 15 yards, the 13th arrow was way high and left but I didn't miss the dirt out back. :banghead:
But; that is a big improvement.
It really hurts when you can't do what you used to do with no problem.

I've spent the last year or so trying to rehab myself from some spinal issues, and it definitely can get really frustrating when you look back at the things you used to do before. It can be demoralizing, if you let it be.
It took me a while, but I came to the conclusion that life only moves forward. All we can do if we really love something is try our hardest to do it to the best of our current ability, and keep in mind that there are lots of people out there who can't even do that much. It would be way too easy to be in that category, the way life often works. You still have the ability to shoot, and that is huge.
Your first two shots in that one picture, are deadly. As you gain strength, and coordination, it should only get better. Take one step at a time, do any rehab exercises you have religiously, and try not to overdo it. Eat well, get lots of rest, and let your body heal after each session, and it will begin to adapt for better endurance in your chosen activity. I suspect the flyers are just some muscle somewhere telling you its not quite where it needs to be, just yet. It will come around.
I think a lot of these rehab things come down to having the will to grind through. You're out there shooting, and that, sir, is a huge step in the right direction! I admire that.

Good luck to you in your continued rehab! As far as hunting accuracy goes, i think you are already there. Your first two shots seem to always be on the money. My practice is only for hunting. I shoot one arrow and go pull it. If i shot three arrows, i'm not sure what that might look like.

Thing is, I'm wanting to go to Elm Hall but just not sure I could complete the course.

Listen to your body, don't push it.

This coming Thursday I'm having surgery on my right hand to correct the contracture and remove a cyst that is pressing on a nerve.
Found out that's the reason for the loss of coordination.
The only thing I'm worried about is, will I be able to hunt come October. :dunno:

Pine, I had an injury once, and went to TX with a tab someone made for me so I could pull the bow with my teeth. I got pretty good at 15 yards, which is about normal for javies.
Best of luck and keep us posted.....

lots of guys kill critters regularly and don't shoot that good. Go for it.

Just dawned on me that the middle finger doesn't go straight out so I'm not getting a clean release.
Had the surgery on August 1st and just got the bandage off yesterday.
I don't know how long it will be before I can shoot, so probably not going to hunt this year.

Yes, hope for the best!

It shouldn't matter that much really. If it does, just cut it off. :bigsmyl:
