Title: ACE Standard 160 gr with Aluminum Screw-In Broadhead Adapters
Post by: Zing on July 03, 2024, 08:33:08 PM
I have searched and have found nothing to help me.  The 42 gr adapter is not fitting all the way into the broadhead.  There is a small gap below the Ferrule. I think that is what it should be called. Is this normal or should it fit flush ? This is on all Broadheads and adapters

I found out the best fitting broadhead adapter for Ace Standard broadheads is the Zwickey hollow point 11/32 36 grain broadhead adapter.    This one fits "flush" in the ferrel of the broadhead.  If you need to bump up the weight some, a #5 shot fits perfect in the hollow point of the adapter and weighs approx. 5 grains each.  A 1/8 inch drive pin punch can be used for "seating" the shot in the adapter. I hope this helps.

Reduce the overall length of the adapter so it’s not bottoming out in the broadhead before it’s seating.
Grid file or sand the adapter end as needed
Might not take much

Than you for the reply’s I thought about trying to remove a little and see if it helps, thank you again.  I will give it a try and I will also look at the Zwickey. I am shooting for 200 gr and figured a few grain up or down should not matter.

Yes, with everything else that is going on clipping back the adapter to fit the broadhead isn’t going make much difference
There are to many variables that are going to effect the groups on target you’re shootings for

I don't think trimming back on the adapter is going to solve the problem.  It is probably not bottoming out.  The ferrel on the Ace is a little smaller in diameter than Zwickey and other broadheads.  I noticed this on my wooden arrows and also when I started using broadhead adapters.  The Zwickey adapters are the only ones I found that fit.

Don't sweat it, I'll be back as soon as Rob converts my video....

In the meantime, can you post a pic of the Bhead with the ferrel in it from the rear at a 45* angle?

Still post a pic when you get a chance, cutting or shortening the adapter may not make the bhead flush with the end of said adapter.

Some of my broadheads are flush and some of them are not.  Either way has
never been an issue. If it were me I would not worry about it one bit.

I shot this heavily shielded bore with an ace super express(non flush) and
aluminum forty two grain adapter. Through the shield and into the off leg
bone. I unscrewed the arrow and had to use pliers to pull the Ace out. 585
grain arrow out of a 70# MOAB.

I am still at 203 grains. Should it be in further or will that work ok ?

Oh, wow. Where did you get those adapters? I've never seen adapters with a gap like that near the base.

Blackwidow, I am not against getting Zwickey and trying them. Should it fit all the way in. These are the first adapters I have messed with.

I just read an email from Bob at ACE, he’s explained it and pretty much said some are bigger than others and that some of the 11/32 will stick out a little further. I am going to get a pack of Zwickeys and try them also.  Which ever flies the best wins.

Yes, Bob is correct, however, where did you get those adapters in the pics above?

That little won't effect anything and no reason to switch to another that will probably be the same.

I'll hear you Kelly.
But I have never seen one that would not go down like the top picture.  I have plenty like the second picture. Evidently I have never used those type of adapters.

I received my Zwickey adapters and they fit a lot better.  I will use them from now on.  I wanted 200grs Broadhead and the weight of the 6 run from one at 199 and one at 203 the rest were 200.3 on avg.  Thank you too all that posted.

I did these broadheads up last season and was really happy with how they turned out.

I ordered 125 grain Ace Standards from Ace and the 34 grain long aluminum adapters from 3 Rivers my head came in at 160 grains. Everything fit great and they spun and flew true.

Zing, glad you got your adapter issues figured out. There are some great guys here like Terry that usually always have a solution.

Here are a couple pics of the Aces I used last season.

They look great and the 2nd picture looks even better.  I guess you used 5/16 adapters, I stuck with the 11/32.  Mine still stick out a little but spin great and shoot great. I am sharpening them now using the KME sharpener.  We have a velvet hunt next month that I plan on hunting. How do you like that sharpener you’re using?

Thanks Zing.

Yes sir, I used the 5/16 adapters. That little sharpener from 3 Rivers worked great on those heads (and other 2 blades as well) and it fits nicely in a pack or pocket, etc. for field touch ups. I also sharpened a couple with a Rada sharpener with the same excellent results. I always strop on cardboard afterwards and it works for me. I haven't tried a KME sharpener yet but I hear great reviews.

Best of luck on that velvet hunt and please keep us updated. -Jim

I've never used 5/16ths and a most of mine are flush and only a few are not. Different broadheads have different ferrels.  And also as seen on this thread, different adapters can be different.

Oh, and all my adapters are 42 grains and never seen a long 34 grain aluminum adapter.  I'll have a look on 3 Rivers.

Ah, they don't make an 11/32nd in a long at 32 grains, they are shorts.  No wonder I've never heard of them.  :campfire:

Below is a Zwickey No Mercey and Delta both with different furrrels an yet both are the same in adapter showing. The difference can be seen by the thread length post.

And, we have a Suffer and Woodsman with the same different adapters showing more adapter showing.

I have no worries about any of these heads/adapter combos. I've killed a lot with the Snuffers and Woodsmans with no issues with the adapter showing more.  However, that 1st pic you posted Zing is a little concerning as the gap is narrower and exposed. It is the weak point on you arrows.

The Suffer is a bit dirty because it was given to me by Ryan, and I killed a nice javie with it last Laredo hunt and I retired it.   :campfire:

Terry. I ended up using the 11/32 Zwickeys and they look like yours now with just a little bit showing.  I ordered some Zwickey 5/16 adapters and I am going to get some 145 Ace Standards and try those also. I have some arrows from D&M that really like the screw in Zwickey Deltas. Thought I would see how they like the Ace broadheads. If it is not 99 degrees next month for the 3 day velvet season, I should be able to see how they perform. I am sure they will get the job done as long as I do my part.
