Title: Inherented an old Ben Pearson Special Bow
Post by: texasleatherworks1 on July 19, 2024, 10:20:47 AM
Need some help here. I inherited an old Special No. 730. 4'10". My wife's great aunt passed and we found it in her closet. They gave it to me since I am the only left hand shooter in the family. My only experience is with compound and would like to get this one new

The bow is actually a Right Hand bow.  Held with the left hand but a Right Hand bow.

4’ 10” makes it a 56” bow

45xx@28 is 47 pounds at 28 inches of draw

You’ll need a string for a 56” recurve which will actually be about 52” long.

You can replace the shelf material with a piece of adhesive backed Velcro.  Grab some arrow and go have some fun.

Trap, 4'10" is 58" every day. Brainfarts are us!
The BP Special was a not-so-special entry level bow but will kill critters just the same.

Also, I don't know how I didn't see it as a right handed bow...good grief Charlie Brown!

Nice bow, and sorry to say, for you, it is right handed!
Trap is correct on length. These bows were made before AMO. 56" would be length nock to nock.
And yes, 4'10" =58",  which is actually tip to tip measured length.
I know, because I made alot of strings for old bows like this.
Since it was probably standing on end in the closet, when stringing, beware there could be a twist in the limb.
Hope you can find or trade for a lefty, to enjoy this great sport.
Good shooting to ya!
Steve

Already put a string on it and no twist! My wife has reclaimed since it belonged to her great aunt. Believe it or not, I now have 'permission ' to buy a trad without selling one of my compounds. Looking forward in the hunt for the bow that feels right for me
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement!
