Title: Limb length
Post by: Crooked Stic on August 08, 2024, 08:23:25 PM
Let's say you want to shorten three piece long bow from 58 to 56..  To do this by moving the bolt hole on each limb one inch toward the tips. Using the same stack how much weight will you gain?

Actually…. Just moving the bolt holes and sliding the limbs up higher on the riser is going to change the limbs dynamics considerably. The length of the wedge hanging off the riser makes a big difference.

You may be better off changing the stop location on your form to build shorter limbs with your fade tips and wedges in the right location.   .02 cents… hell with the draw weight.

Or…. Build a shorter riser…. Shorter riser = 3.785431 pounds  :biglaugh:

Well duh on me that last part is what I meant moving the stop pin on the form 1 inch. The riser is assort as I want to go.
3.7 you say pfft.
Actually I have shorten the riser and and made very little difference just awhile back.

I did these kinds of experiments over ten years ago and found that the draw increased ~2 pounds fo a two inch reduction.  My experiments were with different risers and moving the bolt and pin holes one inch on each limb.

Moved the stop 1 in. To tip and about .004 less stack gained 5lbs.
