Title: Fred Bear
Post by: JDunlap on October 06, 2024, 08:23:05 PM
I watched the YouTube video of Fred Bear in Africa, taking a bull elephant, Cape buffalo, and other game. I know the bow was a 70lb kodiakā€¦.but does anyone know what arrow setup he was using? Unless there was some creative editing, he took both the elephant and the Cape buffalo with one arrow. Quite amazing.

Easton used a special alloy, it was very durable, it resisted bending, but would break before bending. The heavy spine he used I believe were .320 platinum color. It had Easton and Bear's Tm on the shaft. Next size down was the .316, .312 and maybe .308.  They were an exclusive for Bear Archery.

But I believe on that Africa hunt Fred used fiberglass MicroFlites?

There's a video out there somewhere where he talks about putting a fiberglass (?) Shaft inside of an aluminum shaft for his elephant hunt. I'll look for it somewhere to confirm.
I believe the buffalo shot on the film was with one of his drug tipped arrows. I've read that several places but can't confirm it so that's just speculation.

Thanks guys. I was guessing it had to be something more than a lightweight poc.
