Title: Knot holes in veneers

Hello all, I picked up a piece of bacote that I felt would make some interesting veneers.
On most woodworking projects I fill all the holes with epoxy. I didn't really think prior to cutting these down, should I have filled these prior?
I initially thought they were thin enough that it wouldn't matter..... now I'm second guessing myself.

Put a little extra glue in the holes they will be fine. Gives character.

What i've done in the past is use a black pigment mixed in with some EA 40 and filled the knot holes. I used wax paper to lay the veneers on, then a putty knife to fill the holes... Let dry 24 hours, then run them back through the drum sander.   The small holes can just be laid up using extra smooth on during lay up and it will show the core wood below. the color will just be darkened up a bit.

You can also tone down those brighter wood colors by using one of these before you spray the clear coating…These markers come in real handy for all sorts of repairs.

That's a really good piece of advice.
I think I'm going to hunt with this one, I am having a hard time setting it down. I probably sent over 200 arrows today.

Another little trick you can use to fill pinhole knots or even larger holes is to get some 120 grit saw dust ready before you do anything, then saturate the wood with super glue and add the sawdust on top. Then smash it down flat with  a putty knife and add more water thin glue… this type of repair can match your wood pretty close, and doesn’t take a lot of wait time either… This works well with a riser check too just filling the crack with glue and sanding into it while it’s still wet.    Kirk
