Title: How do you store your bows?
Post by: BRONZ on May 22, 2008, 10:25:00 AM
How does everyone store their bows?  Pics would be great, if possible...    :)

I only have 1, my second is being made. I store mine on top of a bookshelf with 2 wool socks under the riser. That lifts it up so the limbs arent resting on the bookshelf. I know it sounds stupid, but its easily acessable, and I shoot it everyday. There are some guys that really some some nice setups. I will be watching this thread as well. Great Idea for a thread     I need to be doing something different as well, because my addiction for traditional archery is getting stronger, and I know my bow collection will be growing!

Longbows I hang vertically on pegs.  Recurves lie flat a rack with each limb supported about in the middle.

Hanging verticle unstrung, by the string...I can store 16 bows and use only 24 inches of wall space.

I hang mine horizontally on a bow rack which was a kit from 3R, I painted it antique black.
I hope this picture comes out, I have never used photo bucket before, well here goes! (http:// s292photobucket.com )

OK, I'll try this one more time tonight. Is it possible to be "too traditional"? I have no cell phone, can't upload photo's, graduated college but still shoe horses for a living...maybe I should step into the 21st. century, especially when it comes to the computer and trying to send pics! I made a frame approx. 2'x 2' and put a piece of peg board of the same size on it.I slipped rubber tubing over the brackets to protect my bows. Our 2 recurves and a longbow are all stored horizontally resting on pegs at the fadeouts.
Also hanging from the same rack on hooks and pegs are 2 catquivers,2 back quivers, bow stringers, arm gaurds ,tabs amd limb skins. I put a cup hook into the sides of the frame where 2 bow cases and a longbow sock hang.
The whole thing is adjustable and holds alot of gear in a small space. The thing it aint is pretty but it works for me.

             Take care,
                       Ed  :campfire:

I pound two nails about 48 inches apart just above the trim moulding of a window.  I pad the nails with teflon tape and hang the strung bow on them.  You can take the nails out and never notice the holes.  The holes can also be easily fixed as it is not an area that gets much scrutiny.  I also know the nails are close to perfectly level by using the trimboard as reference.

Four broken arrows set into scrap oak to support two bows. Got some turkey feet in the freezer for another rack . Just don't know how I want to set them up at the moment.

does hanging a strung recurve from a peg do any harm?

Question for you guys...... Do you think that storing recurves horizontally is better than hanging vertically by the string?  I hang my longbows and recurves vertically, unstrung, and by the string.  Just curious.

Sendero25, I'm with 'ya on that PC stuff. Everyone in my family has a cell phone but me. I figured a trad. wood carrier would be too much. I keep mine horizontal on an old gun rack and some on top of my gun safe.

I have abow rack made like arrowk9 above that holds a total of 7 bows. I have in the bow shop and during the selling season from aug thru dec I have them all struck with a bow stringer and keep them strung for customers to see and draw. In the last week of dec I take a bow stringer and unstring them all and just have them on the pegs unstrung. My own bows (3) I keep strung all the time as I never stop shooting inside at 10 yards in the winter and the rest of the year outside at my 30 yard range.

JeanPaul, I don't think hanging strung recurves by a peg will hurt them. I just made a setup for that with some trim molding and dowels. I put clear vinyl tubing over the dowel pegs after I painted them to protect the bow finish.

But I could be wrong. If anybody knows better, I'm open for correction. Preferably before my bows get somehow mangled.

I just have a 2x2 with some 3/8" dowels pressed in holes.  It doesnt look fancy but serves the purpose.

Hey Bronz,
Glad someone gets a little laugh out of my lack of computer skills! My wife thinks the computer  is a $2000.00 solitaire machine! She doesn't realize how easy it is to order hunting and fishing stuff with it! I was almost too embarrassed to post the pic, the wall behind the bow rack isn't really that awful "wine" or "burgundy" color. It is called "cabin red" and without the flash from the camera, it is red with a lot of brown in it, a lot like the picture on the cover of this years 3rivers catalog.
Anyway, my pleasure trying to get a pic to you, I know there are a lot of better and more original bow racks out there, but I am as much of a klutz with power tools as I am with a computer I just went with the kit.  I like hammers and stuff with no moving parts!
Shoot straight my new friend!
John

I hang mine up in the very front space of a safe, in the space right behind the door. I can hang about eight mostly long bows there. I use a rubber band to hold a thick rubber block to the upper limb just high enough to keep them off the safe floor. The block just sets on one of the shelves, letting the bow hang there. The takedown stuff fits in  on a shelf as you would assume.

I have an unused closet in a guest room downstairs for all my hunting gear and winter clothing. I hang metal "S" hooks from the wire closet shelving system and suspend each bow by it's string, one hook at each end.
