We finally got our home phone and internet back up today after a month with out it. We were out of power for 16 days but for us it was mostly an inconvenience. No damage to our home only a little to our driveway and only a few trees down. Our county(Transylvania) has the 7 head water rivers of the French Broad River. Our water comes up fast but also goes down fast here. Unfortunately for Asheville it all goes that way. This was the worst weather related disaster in NC history far surpassing the great flood of 1916.
My wife and I are fine and we really appreciate all the concern we heard from friends.

Thanks Killie and guys. We were very lucky compared to others. Only slightly inconvenienced. Lots of folks lost lives, homes, lots of roads and bridges washed away. The Swananoah(sp) River in Asheville raised over 27' and wiped out lots of stuff.

Welcome back, let’s not forget those that were/are less fortunate.

Mike, it will be a long time before folks around here forget. It will take 6 months for debris removal in the areas that weren't even devastated. It will be years before the devastated areas get back to normal, if ever. Asheville's water still isn't drinkable without boiling first and it will be at least next spring before I-40, between NC and Tenn is ready for traffic. Parts of it were completely washed away.
