Title: Used 51@29 but I’m a 27
Post by: Pathfinder1974! on November 05, 2024, 05:23:11 PM
So I have the chance to buy a super nice bow but it’s a 29 draw and I’m 27. The poundage should be right about what I want but a bow made to perform best at 29 is that gonna still perform well at 27? It is a double carbon Centaur longbow if that makes a difference. Not sure about it as I’m new to trad. Any advise would be welcome.

If the bow is marked 51# @ 29, it will probably pull 46ish pounds at your draw length.  If you like that weight, it will probably work fine.  It's likely that the bowyer marked it 51# @ 29” because that's the specs the customer wanted, more than anything he did to make it perform better at 29”.

What is the length of the bow?

62” amo. Guessing 60”ish strung and setup. I have 2 recurves now and one is 45# at my draw and other is 43# so I figured 46ish on the bow I’m asking about.

I don't think boyers are changing anything to the limb forms to accommodate different draw lengths - assuming the same limb length.  They are changing the thickness or possibly width to target the draw weight at the needed draw length. The limbs will preform the same as limbs ordered to your desired weight at your DL.

A 62” longbow ought to work a lot better for you at 27” DL than it would for the original buyer at 29” DL.
