I have one of Dan's Chinooks. Love that lil' bow. It is 60" I have a few of other bows similar, well a bunch :biglaugh: (BW, Java, Anderson and so on) But I have never shot a Whip. Read a lot about them.
Anybody out there in Trad Gang land that have both a Chinook and Whip. If so, can you give me your thought between the two. Getting old and need to bring down the weights. I switch between longbows and recuves just fine.
One of these days going to have one monster bow sale for all the bows that have just too much pull now. Sucks getting old. :laughing:

I have both. Plus a Pika. My Chinook is a 58", 52@28 takedown for elk hunting, nicest recurve I've ever shot. Fast and silent. My Whip is a 64", 42@28 one piece for form work, 3D shoots and small game (although I would have no reservations about hunting deer sized animals with it). The Whip is the nicest R/D longbow I've shot. Smooth past my 28.5" DL, fast, accurate, and the most quiet bow I've shot. Highly recommended, and Dan's turnaround time is one of the shortest in the biz at about 4 months.

Not yet, but own a Whip, have a Whistler coming this week and a Chinook on order, so will be able to give a better comparison soon. I will say though that I always got along better with recurves than longbows, but I love my Whip - enough to push me to order the Whistler as well. Mine is 64" and 44# @ 28 but feels lighter than some 40 pound bows I own. I've only shot a spike with it so far, but clean pass through. It's smooth as can be, and with a quiver, has just enough mass to not feel skittish. As others have said plenty of times, it's also incredibly quiet.

ive had both and at the same time i only shoot ASL bows now but the chinook is allot easier to tune and shoot and is a great shooting bow, the whip is a longbow so apples and orange and is a bit tougher to shoot and not as easy to tune. Recurves are naturally more forgiving in my opinion.

I have a 2016 WHIP (TD) 62-inch, a 2016 Chinook (TD) 60", a 2023 X10 WHIP(TD) 64-inch, and a 2024 64SS (TD)，Coming soon to receive a PIKA56 (TD) in January, I love DAN's bow very much, it's all a work of art, light, rounded, quiet, trust me, having any of it is the best gift Santa Claus can give you

It's interesting how different people feel differently about bows. I feel like the Whip was very easy to tune and shoot and I'm struggling with the Chinook. That said, I like my Whistler so much that my Whip is up for sale here, and there's a good chance the Chinook will follow. I love the Whistler.

I still have a low poundage 66" Whip made a couple of years ago for me when I was recovering from a torn rotator cuff. Now I primarily shoot a 66" Super D, 45lbs@29" and a 60" Chinook, 43lbs@29". They certainly don't need my endorsement but Dan and Jared Toelke made them, they're beautifully crafted, smooth drawing, stable, fast and quiet and it's easy to go back and forth shooting them!

I've had several Whips including a 10X and a couple Chinooks. Sadly I got the Chi ooks during off season and parted w them so I've not hunted with them, but they surprised me with their caste. Always shot well with the Whips, but my favorite has been the Pikas-- I have 1-56" and 1-54" and they are great in the whitetail woods, 3d and even 3spot. No finer bows than Toelkes.

PS--- you'll look a long time before you find anything smoother than a Whip in my opinion. Although slower than the Chinook I feel the shoot ability outweighs any speed gain. I've taken a number of deer and 1 memorable chipmunk (shot on 3d course w buddies watching) with 42# Whips that I pulled maybe 37#.

I only have a Whip with a Whip 10X @ 35#, 66" on order for 3D and indoor Spot. My Toelke Whip is the finest Bow I've ever shot so I'll stay with them.
I don't think you can go wrong with a Toelke.

I have a 58 inch Chinook, a 58 Whistler, a 56 Pika and a 62 Whip. I have been very impressed with the smoothness of them all. I draw 29 and I think the Chinook is the best performer, but not by much. My favorite as a hunting bow is the Pika.

How would you compare the Pika and the Whistler? I have nearly the same Toelke lineup as you, minus the Whistler, and my Pika is a 54". I've been wondering about a 58" Whistler ...

The Whistler is a good shooter. Both my Whistler and Pika are 47#@28. I took a big bear in Manitoba with the Whistler last spring shooting a 570 grain Surewood and a 160 grain VPA 3-blade. The arrow entered mid rib cage on the left and buried in the offside shoulder. He only went about 40 yards. I think the Pika is at least as quick and it is so handy in a tree or blind that I give it the nod, but if I only had the Whistler to shoot I would still be a very happy hunter. I think the two are very similar in smoothness.
