Title: New Broadheads
Post by: Alexander Traditional on March 22, 2025, 10:26:50 AM
I have always wanted to try Jim's broadheads. I called him up and he had some that needed to be ground. I told him double bevel, and he had them to the house very quickly. The solid one is the short mag,and the vented is the big game. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I have come up with two different ways I'm going to sharpen them. I have built a board that will hold the broadhead, and going to load up a wheel on a Dremel with lapping compound. The other way is I clamped the broadhead in my lansky and clamp that to a board I made with holes drilled in it. I tried just using the lansky and attaching the rods but couldn't get the angle right. I have sharpened Simmons heads on a three sided jewel stick with a razors edge guide for a long time. They will peel hair off. Google Chris spikes broadhead sharpening, and you can watch his video on it.

Dave he used to have them on his website, but he said demand was too high, and his main deal is building bows. He did a run here on Trad Gang, and I had an order in but it somehow got crossed up. I called him up the other day,and he had some of the two Igot, and he grinds them when you tell him what you want. He said it's best to call to see what he might have. Give him a call,he's real easy to talk with,he might have some more.

Hey Donald I had seen that video before. I'm going to try the two ideas I have first. A lot of the videos I see on you tube seem to take off way more material than needed, and it looks like some hit the ferruel too.

I got some of the heads that were offered here from him, I went single bevel after talking with him.  I used the sharpening system he sells on his website, I have used it for years on 2 blade heads, and knives with great results.

If what I already have doesn't work I may go that route. I already have a slow rpm grinder I used for gunsmithing. I really wanted something that I didn't have to free hand.

I stumbled on to about 10 of the Big Game heads, and really like them.
