Title: Kentucky/Ohio public land hunting
Post by: possum69 on March 29, 2025, 09:46:33 AM
Ladies and Gentlemen I am starting to plan a Bow hunt this October 15-19 in Kentucky or Ohio for my son and I. I thought what better wealth of knowledge could I find than the Trad Gang. With that said any advice and guidance we could get is greatly appreciated. This will be our first out of state traditional hunt. Again thank you in advance for your help.

My family and did southern Ohio public land trip for about 15 years, if you go late October there will be a ton of hunting pressure especially out of state people. I think the best time to go was about the 3rd week of October right before the pressure starts but deer are on the move. As far as land to hunt there are some pretty good options we did lake hope/zealski state forest but the hunting kinda died so we started going a little north of that to burr oak/ Wayne national and have some good opportunities. I still turkey hunt that area and see a good amount of deer. Ky is kind of interesting in how they do there public land management some are draw, some is open to bow hunting some is not so that will take some research but it's a great state to hunt as well. My father is from the south eastern part of ky and my brother elk hunted down there, I can say that part of the state is tough deer hunting but I hear the western part of ky is pretty awesome but not much public. Hope o helped

Look into the Northwest part Kentucky.   Several WMA are bowhunting only except during youth season.
