Title: tip protector = excessive noise
Post by: Mint Hill Mule on July 06, 2008, 07:44:00 PM
I noticed my longbow making unusual noise. Removed it and the bow was a whisper. Anyone had this problem before? It is leather sewn up both sides and a little loose.

Ideas or thoughts on changing the design or an alternative? Hate not having something to protect the tip.

I found the same thing. Went to a rubber protecter. I even tried wetting the leather one to shrink fir it but it was still noisey.

Yep I've found a nice tight fitting rubber one to be the ticket.

I've found that if your tip protector fits alittle loose it can make some noise.I like the rubber ones.

Cut the tip off a baby bottle nipple. Use the clear ones you cant hardly see it.

I found that too when I made a leather one.  What made all the difference was taking a length of serving and tie the protector good and snug around the bow under the string.

Leather tip protectors need to be snug....Thats why I don't make a Generic tip protector, I do make them for a couple of Bowyers for there specific bow tips....
