i'm an australian bloke i would like everyones opinion on the best recurve in the area of value for money, biuld quality/ craftsmenship and back up sevice ie [ if i want a second set of limbs latter down the track do i need to send the riser or can they be made without the riser] the opinion of all the woderful men and women on this site would be greatful.
-
Cheech, you will get a ton of answers. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I have shot most all of the big name T/Ds out there. I like Robertsons and Marriahs, Dale Dye and Schaffers, but my favorite is RER bows T/Ds. The are very quick and quiet and their customer service is second to none. Jack Kempf also make a Kwyk Styk that is right up there as well. Shawn
-
For me its Black Widow. I shoot their td recurves better than any others. No need to send the riser back in to get another set of limbs made. That said, one of these days I gotta get my hands on a Rose Oak. The "prototype" shown on another thread just looks fantastic. I like it even more so than the Wildcat...Mike
-
Rose Oak Creations-I have the Wild Cat and love it. Very fast and sweet to draw.
-
Black Widow for me
-
Widow. i'm sure there are others out there that are just as good, but for the requirements you listed widow all the way. i just got my frist one and i am very pleased with it.
-
I shoot a Ron Pittsley Predator and love it and think that it would be right up there plus the Chek-mate hunter 2 is a awesome value for money bow.
-
Morison for me, they are pricey but they perform. That said, there are a lot of good solid bows out there for less money.
-
Norm Johnson's Blacktail Elite VL is my favorite. They're pricey and I waited 13 months for mine. Within the next two weeks, I'm going to be ordering a Brackenbury Legend from Bill Howland. The Legend will take 14 months before I receive it and it'll be pricey too. The Blacktail was close to $1000 and so will be the Brackenbury.
-
When it comes to versatility no one has even come close to the Bear magnesium TD's.. true TD, no tools required, 3 optional grips, optional built in sight, True center shot, Off the shelf or factory furnished elevated brush rest with adjustable side plate. risers available in three lengths and limbs in three lengths. Old riser with old limbs will hold their own with any B50 strung bow, new limbs and FF strings they hang tough with the new HP crowd.. Did I say tough as nails too?
-
Rose Oak for me. Hap
-
I like Martin, but then I'm extremely biased.

Brackenburys, Morrisons, and Blacktails all get my vote for favorite 3 piece recurves. There are a number of other really good ones, but none that I have shot so far that I like as well. Each of the three I listed have different feels, but I like them all very much. I used to exclusively shoot recurves, but after trying several hybrid 3 piece longbows, I find I like them too. The Brackenbury Non-Typical, the Morrison Shawnee, and the ACS CX are at the top of my list of the 3 piece longbows. I just got a Holm-Made two piece longbow from Chad Holm (a TradGang sponser) that is also a top notch bow -- very light, fast, smooth, and accurate. I will be posting pictures and a review of the bow soon. I am impressed!
If you are looking for the smoothest shooting 3 piece recurve I have ever shot, I would have to say it is a Morrison Cheyenne with the foam core, black fiberglass limbs. My Brackenbury Quests are outstanding and really can't be beat overall. Finally, Norm Johnson's Blacktails are probably the prettiest bows made, and they shoot very well too. If I could only own one 3 piece recurve bow for hunting, I would have to pick either a Quest or a Cheyenne. I could not go wrong with either one.

roseoak wildcat gets my vote
-
Rose Oak, Habu, and Hoyt Gamemaster so far. I have owned or shot a lot of the others (Bw, Marriah, Silvertip, RER, etc.) but in my hands these have been the best of the best so far (but I do have an assenheimer due in February). There is no one answer-some folks feel widows are tops-you couldn't give one away to me. Some folks feel Silvertip, Marriah, and RER are the best- I sold all 3 and have no regrets... Good Luck!!

Ummm, Make mine a "WIDDER", please!!
David

Like these folks have shot a lot, Black widow is hard to beat, have 2 of them. That being said, I have a Quinn Archery, 60" #47@28, that is probably the smoothest shooting, fast, quiet bow I own. Has ligt, solid alum. riser, can get replacment limbs up to #60 for around $150, and they have one of the best track records in theIndustry on limb durability, For around $300!!

I really like my old Widow and my new Schafer.

cari-bow "Taima" For me

the best recurve in the area of value for money, biuld quality/ craftsmenship and back up sevice ie [ if i want a second set of limbs latter down the track
I've shot quite a few high end bows and own a Blacktail they are all good but you asked about value for the money. Take a look at Checkmate, they are a very nice bow and are custom built and won't put you in the poor house.
-
just want to say thank you for your reply's you have probably been asked this question a thousand times before thanks for the answers they will give me something to think on.

-
RER are hard to beat. Kevin and Sue make a great bow and have excellent customer service.
-
I have to agree with MikeW, Check Mate makes a great custom bow for the money. The 56" take down hunter II is a sweet little bow. All for under $400.00
-
Black Widow for me. Super fast and smooth shooters. Getting extra limbs is not a problem.
-
chalk up another vote for RER.
-
Black Widow SAIII. Great customer service comes free with the bow.
-
Check out Brackenbury bows, Bill sure makes a sweet shooting bow!
-
Black Widow, Morrison, etc. Its a personal choice. Buy used off TradGang classifieds. Save a bunch of money and have a top of the line bow as well. I've never been unhappy going this route. Do your homework and you won't either.
-
Schafer Silvertips!!
-
Assenheimer.

BLACK WIDOW

I have a friend who shoots the ugliest, nastiest ol' Dan Quillian recurve bow you have ever seen- it needs a refinish in the worst possible way, it was ugly when it was brand new...the string is cheesy..in short, it ain't much..but in his hands its a Stradivarius.
he kills a L O T of stuff with that bow..and I've never heard one animal complain it wasn'tshot with a fancy pretty bow...
Love what you have, and learn to shoot it well..and it will be YOUR favorite bow.
-
I love all the "Black" named bows.
BLACK Douglas
BLACK Widow
BLACKtail
them all have a great performance, speed and handling and looking beautiful
-
Schafer Silvertip for me! ;)
-
I have owned and shot most every high end recurve and three piece longbow out there,no joke,For me, The Brack Quest is my go to bow, but my new Cari-Bow Taiga is right there with it as is my Custom Blacktail and my Charlie Lamb Sunbear. Pick one and shoot it well.

BLACKTAIL for me
-
My vote for best would have to be for the Black Widows. My vote for the best-bang-for-your-buck bow is gonna have to be for the Pittsley Predators, including the ones that were made when Ron was at Darton. Excellent value/performance/goodlooks in a takedown bow.

What's really funny....is you have all these opinions.....and they're just that....opinions. Only thing that matters to me is how it performs, for me. I've only owned one (Bear Montana) and shot 3 others: Schafer Longbow; Black Widow Recurve and a custom that a friend of mine built for himself. What's razy is.....I liked my buddy's custom a lot. Then the Schafer.....then my Bear Montana....then the Black Widow. People can say whatever they wish. I'm just telling the truth. I have a new bow on order.....and we'll see where it fits into that list.
-
Wow, finally an easy one. :) Just pick one out of a hat because every brand has it's followers and will name it on a thread like this sooner or later. They are all the best. :D
Personally the best thing to do with any bow is shoot one first. If you can't do that stick with those that you can try ahead of time. There will be no disapointments that way.To order a bow you have never shot is like ordering a mail order bride. They will all work but might not work well with you. :readit:

Check HERWAYBOW.COM Affordable, great looking and sweet shooting. That's in Irvington, Ky.
-
I love my Zippers Bill and Tracey make a qualiy tough and pretty bow, I also like the Morrison Cheyene with foam cores but my next one will be another Zipper with foam cores and skins on the limbs. Chris
-
I have shot quite a few take 3 piece take downs and honestly most of the big names offer good value (if you mean "worth what you pay" and not "cheap") and quality as well as service. Shoot as many as you can and see what feels right to you. My wife on the other hand will tell you hands down her Striker is the best 3 piece she has ever had the pleasure of shooting, next she likes Bob Lee take downs.
-
James speaks the truth, best advice every time this question comes up. I paid and waited for one of these high end bows that I never laid eyes on outside of the digital world that has been mentioned numerous times in this thread. Waited 12 months for it. Had it for a few months and sold it. Don't get me wrong the bow was what everyone is looking for, but it just had little things that I didn't like and I could tell it was always going to be collecting dust. If I would have held and shot it first I would have saved myself a lot of time.
I currently own a Morrison Cheyenne, a Shafer Silvertip, a BW PSAIII and a Whisperstik MojoStik and none of them will ever leave.
Try before you buy...Most of the top end bowyers will mail you one to try.
-
I have owned a few and since about 2001 I ahve never been without 3-piece morrison. I still have an original takedown and now have a Shawnee. 2nd hand limbs are plentifull and The Morrisons are good folk to deal with. I have had them custom ordered and used. No problems. Plus, they feel so good!

Ron Pittsley's Predator.

My experience is limited, as I have really only shot the bow I bought, and am now waiting for another set of limbs, without having to mail the riser. As a school teacher my budget for "toys" is limited. I found the price of the Chek-mate bows to be in the range I could afford. I have been super happy with it. I ordered stronger limbs because it is smooth and the 55# draw feels light and I want to try moving up in weight. Great customer service. I am sure most of the bowyers that are sponsors here would be great to work with as I have found the members of this site to be a great group of people. Good luck with your search.

MORRISON ARCHERY("THERE IS NO COMPARISON")
-
My favorites are Morrisons and Robertsons??
-
For me,it's Shafer's then Black Widows
-
Zippers, Zippers, Zippers, RER, Quinn. Did I mention Zippers?
-
The one you can shoot the best?
I have experience with only the Dalla, but I like it alot, for all the good reasons.
-
There are a lot of good bows--It would be hard to shoot them all. I really like a Legends Bow. I think it is an outstanding buy for the money--especially his "mountain bow". He is a sponser here as well as many of the fine ones listed above. Shoot as many as you can and check out legendsbows.com. good luck with your search.

Hold , up find archery club , test drive before ya buy, any bowyer worth their salt should have test model...kick the tires...sling few arras fist..mark
-
As a dealer for Jack Kempf...he gets my vote. I've been shooting his bows for years.
With that said, my suggestion is to attend some Trad functions where dealers are setup and shoot as many bows possible to find the right one that fits your shooting style. Like Denton Hill, Comptons, Whittingham and Sawmill, New Jersey.
You don't want to spend a ton of money on a bow and be disappointed when it finally arrives. Call the bowyers that offer a "test drive" and go from there.
-
Black Widow - I have shot most if not all the bows listed on this thread. But, that is for me. What fits me best might not even make someone's list. One size does not fit all.
-
I think your splitting hairs - I aint touching this one. One thing I know it's hard to go wrong with most of the sponsors on here and with and ACS CX adcock
jer Bear
-
Zipper and Black Widow!!
Bill
-
Pitsley Predator,,Also check into their working limb and how much of the bows energy is being used in that limb. One of the highest percentages out there,, Smoothest bow I've shot.

RER bows fine craftmanship they are quiet, quick and smooth. You can pay more for a bow but I believe you cant get a better bow than A RER bow. Kevin and Sue are oustanding people to deal with both before and after the sale..
