Title: Dryad Orion Recurve..Anyone?
Post by: S. Brant Osborn on July 29, 2008, 11:48:00 AM
Who has tried the recurve limbs on the Dryad Orion?  I see that tey are static tips and the overall package is sooo afordable!

You could get a bow and two sets of limbs cheaper  than many custom bows.

Goodlooking bow Dryad!

The Orion is a great bow.   I like the longbow limbs, but the recurve is fast and stable.

Do they offer a "test drive" program.

Can't believe I bought a Helle from them at Comptons and missed trying out the Orion!

Jimmy,

We really don't have a test drive program except at the shows.  Compton would have been a great place to shoot them all.  We were right next door to the knives.  LOL

But Mike, your wife was handling the knife booth, and you and Jason were with the bows.  You two don't stand a chance - she is much nicer (and better looking).

I shot one at Denton Hill (a couple of times) and ended up ordering one. The bow is the most quiet recurve I have ever shot  and is very fast. I think it is one of the best regardless of cost.

LOL, indeed.     :knothead:

My buddy bought an unfinished Dryad longbow too and I remember standing right there by all the bows, guess I was so excited for him I was blind to everything else.  At least I got my hands on a wonderful Helle Nying to take home.

You guys are really putting together quite the portfolio of products there.  Congrats!

I shot one at MOJAM, when I took the bow back after shooting it Mike asked what I thought. I told him that without a doubt it was the best shooting recurve I had ever shot and will stand behind it today. Their not just saying its quiet for nothing this is a QUIET recurve. Very light in the hand but stable and fast.

Shot one at Denton and it was incredible. 50 lbs shot as good as anything else I shot and them 2 Texas fellers selling them were all right!

I shot one iat compton's and imediatley placed my order for one. First true custom bow that I ever bought.  Mike and Jason were a pleasure to work with.  The bow is fast and quiet. Shooting everything from wood, grizzley sticks and AD Lites with all types of heads. All combos shoot straight and fast. They just don't always hit what I'm aiming at. can't blame that on the bowyers can I?  I picked up my Orion and put three of my old bows up for sale.  The dryad is definatley a keeper.

I really, really like the looks of the Orion in recurve.  If it shoots anywhere near as polished as it looks, it's a sleeper for sure.

Definately on my list of to purchase bows, someday when I get a bit more practice...

You can see my post:  http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=062164;p=1  but Peckerwood summed everything I can say up nicely.  I have a couple of $1000+ bows but the Orion will be with me in the woods this year.  Pretty much everything I want and nothing I don't want.

We are getting quite a few orders for the Orions from the shows, so if you want one you'd better get in line soon.

OK! YA scared me.  Too many people were getting ahead of m so I just placed my order.

What do you guys think about Texas Ebony riser with black glass over bamboo limbs.  50lb 56" recurve and 50lb 62" longbow limbs for good measure?

I love short recurves but have had problems with shor longbows.  That is why I got the 62" longbow limbs.

Thanks mike for your help in the order.

Brant,

It will be a beautiful combo.  I love the darker combos.

Our personal bows are being made right now and both are in the darker woods.

Brant that is the exact combo that I got.  The riser is very pretty and compliments the black glass well. Jason suggested some snake skins that would really highlight the bow. Considering that my wife was unaware of the new bow I passed on the skins. Still a very good looking bow. I love the short 56" model with those static tips it just looks fast and didn't disapoint me.

I'm going with that same wood combo as well.  55@30" 60" curve and 62" longbow.  I love black glass.  I have a 61@28" Orion and shoot it better than any bow I have had.  Can't wait to get my hands on this one!

So many new orders it lookks like the Dryad team might miss hunting season!  HA!

If it makes it home by January I have a hog hunt planned.   Now do I use the recurve limbs or the longbow?  I may have to shoot two little piggies, one with each.

Wish I could say that it was my good taste that ordered the Texas Ebony, bt it was Mikes sugestion.  I just asked for darker wood and black limbs.

Glad everyone is happy with theirs and their new orders.  Mike, the more you gab it up here, the less work is getting done in the shop.  Everyone needs a break from time to time, so, plan for one say the afternoon after mine and HATCHCHASER'S are shipped! HA!
