Title: Am I giving up much? If anything
Post by: rybohunter on August 05, 2008, 10:18:00 PM
Ok I stumbled upon a new to me bow recently and I'm shooting it very well. Due to it being a takedown, I am considering taking it elk hunting instead of my "regular" bow. Out to 20 yds they shoot same enough that I can't really notice a difference. After that the new bow drops a little more

Here's the specs on both
Reflex deflex longbow(allegheny mtn bow)
61#@28" shooting a 550 gr arrow.
175 fps

Martin Hatfield T/D
55#@28" shooting a 556 gr arrow
Not chrono'd

Both are heavily front end loaded, and I would only shoot 20-25 yds. Do you guys think I'm giving up too much? Should I stick with the longbow?

both are fine, just go with a sharp broadhead and a well tuned arrow

If the Hatfield is consistent most martin recurves are 2-3 lbs heavier than they are marked.  Just a heads up.  Go with your gut you know the right answer to this question.

Most Hatfields are real screamers in the speed dept.   Does it seem slower?
