Title: Turkey Grandslam
Post by: Scott E on August 06, 2008, 04:00:00 PM
I want to go after the Turkey Grandslam but would it still be considered a slam if I shot my rio in the fall? Because I'm traveling to texas for a deer/hog hunt and if a turkey walks in range well I dont think I could resist. Would save me some money too I wouldnt have to travel to texas twice.

Joey Buchanan has taken the 5 turkey slam ( I don't know what that's called) with his homemade recurve and homemade calls.
I THINK he's the 1st trad guy to do it too.

ScotT E...The website on NWTF Records Page has all the archery Grand,Royal and World Slams listed.  The NWTF list archery records as a whole group not compound and/or traditional. When I finally accompolished my traditional Grand (05)and Royal Slam (06), there were only I believe 16 other archery Grand Slams and 10 Royals total at the time. The NWTF records office told me I was the first to do so with traditional equipment. Good luck with your quest and hope your road is half as long as mine was!!

Just checked out bowspirits link and I didnt even realize that I had posted a response to it. I was Scotty E then and its kind of ironic what I said

"Good Job hope i can get some kind of slam someday. Hell of an accomplishment-Scott"

Scott,

The "Slam" is what you make it...some say it has to be done in one spring...some say one year...I am hoping to do it once in my life.  I've got the Osceola to go and I am also trying to get a Goulds without paying $2500 to go to Mexico!

It doesn't matter one bit if you shoot your Rio in the fall!

Biggie; I am a "true" traditional bowhunter right down to my tightly sealed wallet   :D

With that said, my Grand Slam is going to be with a shotgun...
