Title: coon hunting
Post by: kshunter55 on August 08, 2008, 05:54:00 PM
This last winter i got into coon calling.  I was so impressed with the results it became my favorite afternoon hobby.  I have a cassette tape that calls coons out of their trees in the middle of the day.  It is like shooting little bears out of the tree and with coon prices as good as they are you are not wasting the animal.  Let me know if you have any questions i will try to get you headed in the right directions.  If you have coons this is a cheap must try method.

I have called coons with bird destress calls and had some luck. What tape are you using?

If you go to  www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com (http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com)  The jonny stewart premium predator coonfight and squealing bird cassette it is like $8.75 then all you need is a cassette boom box.  The trick is finding the right tree.  Find a tree you think might have a coon by looking for older trees with holes.  I have never called one out of a tree that did not have bark on it.  Place your call 10-15 yards from the base of the tree on the opposite side of the hole you think that big boar or sow will come out of.  Set up so you can get a clear shot at the hole.  When they come out make sure you let them come all of the way out of the hole.  I have called six coons out of one tree in the same set so be ready.  They can get aggresive when they come out of the holes so carrying another wepon other then a bow might be a good idea. Seriously.  In my trapping experience the coon is the meanest and toughest animal in the woods.
Hope you try it. It is really a fun and sporty hunt

I think I'm gonna try this I have coons that have been raiding my trash cans (mostly in the winter) I did tree one with the .410 but it would be fun in the day time with the bow.

I already have a predator caller, just need the right sound.
