Its pretty good IMO.  You are going to a great place for OTC turkey, Speed Goats,  Monster Mulies and Whitetails.  If you can draw an elk tag by Newcastle, the hunting is good too, but odds are slim.  I grew up about 45 miles from there out on the prairie.  If you end up over there, I;ll give you some tips on deer and turkey spots.  Elk too, if you just wanna call them up and see some toads up close, or if you ever Draw!

Closest General unit Good quality area is the Bighorn Mountains. Everywhere else near there you;ll have to draw, some areas better odds than others.

I think Newcastle would be a pretty good place.  Good opportunity for whitetails, antelope, turkey, and mule deer.  Bighorns isn't too far of a drive.  I love that Black Hills country, very cool.

Man, your post really hits home with me.  I had that interview in 2001 in Riverton, Wy.  I was offered the job in New Castle, though.  But due to the state of Wyoming's pay scale I had to turn it down.  I had never been to New Castle before but have been to the Black Hills and thought it had to be a pretty place.  Our family took the big Western road trip 5 summer's back and we swung through New Castle to see what we missed.
I hope you like it.

I rode through Newcastle yesterday. I love the area. More Mulies than you can shake a stick at. Great hunting and beautiful. There seems to be a natural funnel from Sundance south. You'll love it.

You will love it there. I love the black hills country. There is alot of good hunting there. Just north I know they take some monster public land whitetails. There is a fellow tradganger from the he goes by the name huntnmuleys  on here. Look him up. Great people and I think that he works at the honor farm there still. Is that where you are applying.

Newcastle is a nice area. The Black Hills are beautiful, with great whitetails and turkeys, pretty good mule deer, and antelope are nearby in the prairie areas. Newcastle is a nice little town, with Gillette and Rapid City nearby if you need 'city' stuff. It's a winner if you like doing outdoor stuff.

I think the job opening is at the honor farm, but maybe at the boot camp.  I may miss the easy OTC elk tags here in ID.

No you wont OTC hunting for elk is all over the state. Maybe not the Black Hills but drive a little and hunt elk OTC. You have chosen a beautiful area of WY with multiple species to hunt. Welcome

Just to west in the bighorns are two really good over the counter areas. 36 and 37. I have hunted 37 many years and it has some really good elk. As jack said just a short drive and you can find some great OTC elk areas. Hit me up when you are here. I make up to that are a couple times a year. Some good 3D shoots and lots of good mountain bike areas. I found thats a good way to scout up there.
