Joe Coots went down to FL and took home 1st place!!!
Way to go my friend, and way to show some folks that instinctive snapshooters can not only hang but can also 'put away' those that claim otherwise.

Yer embarassing me hoss. No big deal, I only won by 5 pts. But it was sweet to compete with a fairly large number of shooters who are used to the pressure of a big shoot, come from behind at 3rd place and take first...all as a "snap shooter" shooting a hunting weight (59@27) bow and hunting (585gr) arrows. I didn't put away anyone...thankfully ultracompetitive target shooters decided to not brave the heat. I would have to practice more to stay with some of the top shooters of the Traditional Bowhunters of Florida. I was just luckier than the rest this weekend.
You should have seen the looks on the faces of Gregg and the others when most of my arrows buried to the nock and some out the other side of the long range target backstop skipping down range. That was one of the many highlights of my weekend! Makes a feller feel good to have a setup that'll pass through a TBOF dragon as good as it does whitetails.
If ya'll haven't been to a TBOF shoot, you HAVE to go...awesome venue, wonderful people, well thought out logistics. Well worth the trip.
Best thing was, Connor, who at 9 has not cared for trad archery in the past few years, suddenly was bit by the bug and had to go on this trip. He took second in cubs, Chase took 3rd in youth, our own Skyler Wilson took 2nd in youth, and his best friend Mason took 1st! It was awesome seeing young men get wound up about traditional archery. It was very renewing seeing all the young folks and so many others with deep passions for our way of life.

We enjoyed having the TBG contingent and friends on site for the TBOF Fall Rendezvous. It was great to see the Coots Boys, Danny Beckwith and Chuck Evans again and to meet Don, Skyler, Jimmy and Mason.
Joe, I hope you are planning to come down to the state championship shoot in March to see if you can repeat. I will be shooting a lot between now and then. ;o)
Glad to hear that Connor and the rest of the boys had a good time. That makes all the work that goes into putting on a shoot well worth it.
-
Nice job Joe!

I've seen first hand the shooting abilities of that boy. Not suprised a bit!

Congrats Joe, and Conner, and Chase, and Skyler and Mason. I've seen all of these guys shoot. It won't be long until Joe may not be able to hold these youngsters off. Good shooting guys. :clapper:

I think that all of us who attended will agree that this was about as good as a 3-d shoot can get....Great targets, Great location, Great people, and plenty of wildlife....We saw hogs ON the pratice range, some one has some pics of them between the shooting stakes and the targets :banghead: ....We saw a big Black Bear, up close and personal.....A nice lake that was full of 'Gators.....We got to spend some time with Tom and Dina and many other Trad brothers and sisters..... We can't wait till spring (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2502.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2496.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2490.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2472.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2477.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2478.jpg) (http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k209/rickybob_2006/CIMG2489.jpg)

Oppp just saw the boys. Congrats to them as well! Lots of ArrowMasters I see. :D
-
Congrats to all!

Too much press guys...this was not about me winning a shoot, it was all about getting the kids involved and excited in what we do.
As Gregg says, the BIG BOYS come out at the spring shoot. They got fellers down there that only drop 5-10 points out of every 2-300 possible...so I have no delusions. Hopefully get to meet and shoot against some of those fellers. Either way, them FL boys make you feel right at home!
Rod, I think I need to get to your place for some lessons; when the pressure is high, it's hard to get that last 1/4" of draw locked in :banghead:
Don, send me them pics brother! Man, I didn't know a feller could have as much fun as we did and not be huntin. It was really a grand time, especially since we had all our youngn's in tow. Now, if I could just figure out how to make a living out of doing this 2-3 days a week and hunting the other 4-5...
-
JC congrats to the boys and you. And when you figure out how to make a living doing this.......please let the rest of us know how to also!
-
Never heard so much snoring in my life ! Boys had some WWF smackdown pillow fights goin too ! It was a privledge to share a cabin with Chuck, Danny, the Coots, and the Wilsons. I am not the biggest fan of hot weather huntin but this was a great trip ! Like others have already said it was top notch. Great course, great targets, very organized and well run. Truly blessed with friends like ya'll to make memories with. Got to see my first wild black bear too !

JC is almost as good an archer as he is a host. Good job shooting - more importantly getting all those young'uns down there. If you've never shot with these young men, there's only one thing to say...hope they stay in the youth category for 20 years, cuz they'll be beating up on the grown-ups in no time.
-
Now...if JC could bake cookies as well as Miss Kim...he just might get an invite to the Bunny Hunt....
-
Proud of you Joe and the boys! Proud to know you and get to 'socciate with ya'll. As always you are a gracious host and a gracious winner! Fine example of good sportsmanship and how to git it done. We know it is all because of Miss Kim's being a good wife, mother, and COOK!
-
Way to go JC!! :clapper:
-
Yeah yeah yeah...the 'boys' come out in the spring, but the real men shoot in the heat. :scared:
-
Hi Joe and Don...we enjoyed spending some time with you. Those sure are some fine boys you had with you. All well mannered...good firm hand shakes and look ya straight in the eye when they talk to you. You can tell the Dad's are doing a great job.
Don...we will ask for you when we stop at Big Daddy's (our favorite store) on the way to Missouri. Hmmmmm ya know I always feel like Miss Scarlet when I am in that store. Remember when she is in the restaraunt with Rhett after the war. Shes got more good food in front of her then she has seen in years...an the dessert tray rolls by...so with a mouth full she says....ohhhhhhhhh Rhett...I want that...and that....and that!
I am still tired and sore for the tournaments...sort of achey. But hey my last radiation treatment was last Monday...when we got to the shoot both days it was too late to warm up...I shot only a 150 on the first course...but jumped to 185 on the second course. That put me briefly in 2nd place...and I wound up shooting a 165 for the last course which dropped me to 3rd place in ladies traditional. The last day I got to shoot with the two best female archers in Florida...Susan Nelson and Debbie Smith who are both good friends of mine. Susan held on to first and Debbie claimed Second. Third place for me was a real accomplishment ...been through a lot this year and I am glad the chemo and radiation is over. The shoot was great fun...an awesome shoot...great targets and great target placement...lots of fun novelty games were available.

Way to go Joe!!
-
Congrats Joe! Glad you see you and the boys have all that fun!
-
Wat to go JC. looks like the young men may give you some serious competition before you know it.
-
Well done cobber!
-
Man...JC, you complaining it's too much press and it's 4 pages and runnin hard in one day!
Son, you done good..both to shoot well and to be taking the youngsters along and lining them out right...gettin a leg up on those other interests that kids can develop. Sweet!
Keep it up, Hoss...! :)
-
Dina, it sure was good to see you and Tom...you both looked great and seemed none the worse for the wear despite your recent trials. Looking forward to seeing ya'll again soon. Appreciate the kind words about our family. Yes, one of the many reasons Don, Jimmy, and I gravitate together is we are all proud to have our kids associate with each other, very similar (high) standards on raising them.
Tell Tom I'll never forget what he said to me as you guys walked out the door...
"You shot good once again JC, you're my hero."
"Tom, I got lucky, but I'm sure glad I'm somebody's hero."
"You are a hero to those boys, and raising them is the single most important thing you'll ever do."
That right there boils it down for all of us fathers, lest we forget in the bustle of raising them.
Bob, Chase had a bad weekend and did not shoot up to his typical level, but never gave up and turned the corner near the end of the shoot. BUT, when he's on, he's definately serious competition for most adults I might add. I'm just happy Connor is excited about anything trad. He's now talking about what animals he might like to hunt...guess I better get another job to pay for three on trips instead of just me! :readit:
-
Nicely done JC and I am so glad that the kids did well and had fun too!
Congratulations to you as well Countrygirl for preservering on a number of levels!!

Way to go, Joe!

Great job Joe, looking forward to chasing hogs with you Sat. morning at Pine Log. See you at the wafle house at 5:00. Hunter was pumped to hear about it!
-
Good going JC! Tell me that was your Morrison you were shooting? If so,Bob will be sending you some ILF limbs and riser any day now.
Good to see you and all the lads having good time. Looks like the boys were having a great time.
-
JC, after watching you fling a couple at Bear Camp, I thought just maybe you might could shoot. Well done.
-
Tell them again how much fun you had, Joe! :D

The State Championship Shoot is March 6-8, 2009. Put it on your calendars now! :archer:
-
Gregg, they'll never know how much fun we REALLY had until they come down for themselves. We drove 8hrs both ways with gas over $3.50/gallon in a large SUV loaded with men/gear and didn't bat an eye...if we can make March happen we'll be there for certain.
Thanks again guys, but honestly you do carry on too much. This was not the IBO championship or anything. There were a lot of good shooters but I certainly did not shoot a score good enough to deserve all this praise.
Great competition though, the pressure was something of a higher order than even the other big championship shoots I've been to. The scores were so close, the difference between 1st and 4th was one target. I just made one less mistake than the other fine shots there. I made plenty of them though, and am right back to practicing with the hopes I can eliminate those next time.
Anyone who says 3d shooting won't make you a better hunting shot has never been to a shoot of this caliber. Come see for yourself.

Good Job Joe,You represented us well.
Thanks
