This may sound strange, but I do not shoot a longbow, don`t even own one. But this past June, I was at the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters Rondevous, and GNBCO was there with some very fine examples of their bows. "Take one and go try it" he said.

For the first time, out of all of the longbows I have tried in the past, I found one I liked.
They may all look about the same, but there are differences.

If I was gonna cheat on my curve and buy a stick, it would be a Great Northern.

I draw 27 1/2 inches and find Jerry Brumm's 62 inch Critter Gitter that pulls in the mid 60s with the Jack Knife folding hinge, to be one of my all-time favorite hunting bows.

I have a really bad habit of trading bows.  If I haven't owned and shot one I want to.  I've owned two GN's and both were great bows if you are into the classic longbow style.  One, a Bushbow, I wish I had kept and may well have to buy another someday.

Bows are subjective.  What one person loves, another may hate.  If quality is the question you can't go wrong with GN.

I have a Fireball and a SuperGhost and just ordered a Traditional Longbow. Not only are they finely handcrafted bows, but Jerry and Sharon are SUPER people.

Ihave a Fireball and a Superghost in left hand and Hickory With Rosewood riser. I am in love.I am trying to make up my mind whether to get another Fireball with the takedown hinge---or a Bushbow with the hinge. The Fireball and the Superghost are both cut to center--which I like.

I prefer the Bushbow to the Critter Gitter, by a hair; just seems to draw a bit smoother for me.  I've had 6 GNs; 4 were Jackknife takedowns...definitely the way to go.  I only shoot the Bushbows now, though I've got a Super Ghost squirreled away that's 10# lighter than I currently shoot...probably my "old age" bow.

Send RC a pm.  He has been shooting bunches of longbows and just aquired a Critter Getter.

Have a Ghost and Critter Gitter Special, the latter my turkey bow, each with bamboo limbs.  Have had a number of Critter Gitters in the past.  Wish I had never let them slip through my hands.  Probably another Critter Gitter in my future.  Very well made bows.  The Ghost with bamboo limb laminations is the fastest recurve for its weight that I've shot, and I've shot a pile of them.  On top of that, it's light in the hand, behaves nicely and looks good, too.  The Critter Gitters aren't as fast, of course, probably in the upper middle of the range for mild r/d bows.  But behave just as nicely.  I've been shooting sticks for more than 40 years, and would put Great Northerns in the top 5% of anything that's out there.

I have several, well maybe more than several, Great Northern bows and have to agree with all of the above. I currently am shooting a Fireball the most and a Ghost some. I do want to order a Bushbow sometime since it is Jerry's and Rick's favorite. All but 2 of my bows are Jack-knife bows, definitely the way to go.

This thread caused me to string up my Fireball and shoot it yesterday. Man that thing "fires" my 725 grain arrows! It's very quiet and light in the hand. It has the jacknife hinge too. Sweet.

I've thought about getting a Fireball, probably will one of these days. I have one of the very first Ghosts with the Jacknife feature, best takedown system handsdown, I wouldn't order one without it.

Threads over a yr old... just checking to see if you fellers still felt the same way 'bout those GN's. Dont hear a whole lot about these bows.

How 'bout it sticks? ..how do you like that critter getter?

Just got myself a Bush Bow off the classifieds from RLA (Ryan is an honest and fair ganger, just for future reference).. and it is sweeeeet!.. got it today and could hunt with it in the morning.. thats how natural it feels... quiet and quick.. but the feel, the natural feeling...(cant describe it any other way), really stands out.

Seriously thinking about getting a jackknife Critter Gitter or Fireball after the 1st of the yr. If they have the same feel.

I've been shooting and hunting with my used GN Critter Gitter for about 2 yrs.  I have lots of others I could be shooting, but I really like this one; very well mannered and performs very well for a mild D/R longbow.  They are keepers for sure.

Lamey, I really like mine so far. This is the best I've shot since I switched to Trad Gear.. Kinda rekindles that fire... Post some pics when you get that new Bush Bow.

Anyone know when they started putting the wedges in the Bush Bow? .. I'm not an expert, but I think mine has overlays on the tips.. Any pics of bush bows to compare?

I rec'd a new Jacknife Critter Gitter from Jerry about a month ago. I love it. I would like to get a Bushbow. You can't go wrong with a Great Northern.

I have two fireballs and a ghost recurve all have the hinge with the locator grip- they really work for me, and the hinge is like nothing out there. just open it up string it and ready to go.
