I have had some very good luck over the years with my recurve. The one critter that has always seemed to elude me was a good white tail. A lot of it had to do with hunting where there just plain were not any big deer, a lot of it was my lack of restraint. 2008 has been very kind to me. The last week of bow season I was able to kill a 130" 11 point, my way best deer ever. This weekend I hunted my new South Texas lease for the first time. I was told by Chunky about a beast of a 10 point that had been seen several times by several folks. Friday morning about 8:30 I was just fix'n to get down and adjust my Tripod when the 10 point came rolling in out of there brush. While I was able to get the shot on film there is not a lot of footage. normally I film a deer for several minutes, risking spooking him, to get plenty of footage. I killed this deer the very first moment he looked away. He scored 149 1/2"

wow that was great,  what did you hit I know he jumped a bit but i didnt think you spined him, shoulder blade maybe?

Behind the near shoulder, thru the off shoulder about mid way up. arrows weigh 788 grains. I don't think I hit the spine but he never got back up so I damaged it some how or other

Great video and hunt.  You hit the spine.  Drops half way down the deer's body at the shoulder.  Center the shoulder like you did and you got the spine.

The snake skin bow is 74 pounds. I swap around from 55 to 83 depending on my mood but the 74 is my go to bow, I just seem to shoot it the best

    I don't care if you bait or not. It is illegal here in MN. I was just asking if that is the prefered method of hunting in Texas. I have never hunted down there!

Buff,

I have a lease about 15 miles from Referio as well -near Taft.  It's on the old "C" Ranch.  Are you near there?  
Great job on the buck!  
Interesting that he fell like that, I had no idea the spine ran low near the shoulder.  Learn something new every day!
