Title: Quiet R/D longbow?
Post by: HATCHCHASER on December 10, 2008, 09:47:00 AM
Who makes the quietest r/d longbow you have never heard?  Let's include the hybrids as well.  For me the quietest hybrid was a Kohannah Fury and the quietest d-shape has been a Mohawk.

Lots of different opinons on this one.  I have a few different bows that are very quiet but some it took a little more messing with to get that way.

There are alot of R/D bows that are quiet, there design I feel makes them quieter then like a Hybrid. But there are alot of variables in making a quiet bow.I have had alot of R/D bows from different bowyers that were all just as quiet as each other. Some may be more but you can make them quiet with some different silencing methods.A Fox,Dwyer,Big Horn Ramhunter,Kohannah and many others.

Another vote for the Toelke whip.  Quietest bow I've shot (besides a Toelke D bow, but that doesn't fit the r/d requirement).  Another super quiet bow is an A&H ACS with wood riser (aluminum seems to have a higher pitch)...Mike

Shady, the aluminum risered Swan Classic belly mount I have hands down. To bad it is the only one ever made like it. Haven't shot the new style classics on the new riser yet.

Hall bows are very quiet, as well as Fox, and most 21st Century bows too.  Most can be tuned to be quiet.

My OKAW Osage Royale and GN Critter Gitter are both dead quiet, even without silencers.  My Robertson is very quiet also.  None of these are hybrids.  The Critter Gitter is so quiet, that I'm looking out for a CG Special.

A buddy of mine and his son both shoot Striker Stingers, they're decidedly on the quiet side.

Haven't tried as many as some here, but the quietest one I've never heard was my buddy's all osage Pronghorn 3ptd.  My 64" Griffin is (was) quiet IMHO, but the Prongy was as quiet without silencers on the string.  1/2 of a catwhisker on each end and there is nothing but the string cuttin the air.

Don't know if they are all that quiet or not, but that one can't be beat.

you want quiet! My V- Archery "Mistic Hunter" is so quiet I'm not sure if I shot it or not until I walk up to the target!

Seriously, It is so much quieter than any bow I have ever owned it's remarkable...

I've tried quite a few and the Pronghorn has to rank toward the top in this category. The now extinct Morrison Classic was silent while it's younger brother Dakota was one of the loudest.
