WHEN: January 24th
WHERE: Waterloo Gun and Archery Club.
N1029 CTY RD T
Portland WI
CONTACT: Paul Mattson (BadgerArrow)
UPDATE Here is a link to the DNR's interative map. You can zoom in and out to view an area. The Waterloo Wildlife area and Mud Lake Wildlife areas are very close to the club house.
http://dnrmaps.wisconsin.gov/imf/imf.jsp?site=mgdlands&qlyr=00dml_sv&qzoom=true&qbuf=5&qry=PROP_CODE=8810
So far I have had alot of interest in this hunt. So if your interested sign up here and let me know if you are attending.
Sat. A.M.- Meet at the Club House, I will have it opened up by 8:00. Coffee and Donuts will be available for a small donation. Pick up maps and directions to the rompin grounds.
Lunch will also be served. Grilled Brats and Beans, if you care to bring a dish or what ever to pass that would be great.
The club house will be open all day. Beverages can be purchased from the club. If anyone is interested I can open up a trap house, so bring your shotgun along. The cost will be $6.00 per practice round. I can also put out some 3d targets, we have 3 tower stands to shoot from. 3d's will cost $5.00 per round.
Maybe we can even get Whip to bring out some of those great RER bows to show off. A trading blanket can also happen if anyone is interested.
I almost forgot. Raffles, 50/50 with the proceeds going to the WTA youth program. Paddle wheel and other raffles. Finger Tabs, Wood Shafts, points, and more.
So how about it? Who's stopping by?

I'll be there, this is going to be great!
I agree I hope Whip brings a few of those Longbows to shoot, I'm going to be in the market soon and have my eye on the Vortex!
-
Oh yeah, thanks for setting this up Paul!!!!! Well done!
-
See you there!!!
Oh, could you post a map or some directions from the intestate? Thanks.
-
so far I plan to attend.
Chuckc
-
I be there.
-
Me too.
Whereabouts on "T" is this?
-
Only about 2 miles from where T and 89 split. There is a sign on the right, drive is on the left.
-
I was originally hosting this as a deer hunt....Not sure what happened   Good Luck to all who go, and I wish you a bountyful harvest
-
Paul;
I'll be there. Should be excellent!
Dave
-
Richard... don't know how this got to be a bunny hunt, but...it did... why not try to get there ?
We can plan on a deer hunt a bit earlier for next season ? Camping out makes the hunt funner (?) but camping out in snow and ice is not quite so good.
Chuck
-
Chuck,
I will be gone that day. I have no hard feelings what so ever. I would like to spend some time with ANY tradgangers wether it be on a bunny hunt, or a deer hunt. Thats all. Good Luck to you all, and mabey down the road I will try to put something toghter. Give me a hollar if you have something in mind
-
This is a wonderful idea! I can't attend this year so I hope it becomes and annual event.
-
KUDOS to Frassettor for starting this whole thing.
Thank you, Richard.
-
Great idea gentlemen! Unfortunately, I can't make it this year but let’s keep these get togethers going!
-
I plan on it. It will be great.
Nathan
-
Guess I should edit my profile, I am not traveling from Utah for bunnies.
Nathan,
Elkhorn, WI
-
I will be there as well. Perhaps a couple nephews as well. Not sure if they will be free yet.
I will bring a crock pot full of parts from some sort of furry creature.
-
I plan on being there.
-
Where abouts is Portland? I can't seem to find it on the map
-
Look at the Gazeteer page 37 NW corner or Jefferson CTY is Waterloo. Portland appears to be a couple miles NE of that, just into Dodge CTY.
Midway between Sun Prairie and Watertown.
ChuckC
-
Waterloo and Portland are next to each other. You will be driving thru Waterloo to get to the Gun Club. If anyone needs detailed directions, let me know where you will be coming from and I will get them to you.

I'm in! Should be a good time.
frassetor, I think this evolved into a bunny hunt because it seemed December was not good for a lot of people. But it was your initial idea that got the ball rolling. Sure wish you could come on down, and sorry to hear you can't make it that day.
In the meantime, if the deer hunt idea is still a good one. No reason those who are interested can't do both!
-
Whip Pm sent
-
me and my brother will most likely be there
-
sounds great, going to try and get there, see if I can pull a few of my hillbilly friends out of the woods and bring em along.

I agree, let me know if there's something in the works on a deer hunt!

Wish I could make it but I cannot. Just thought I would mention the WTA has a deer hunt every year...
Bill
-
I would love to come! But I will be in the Bahamas with my wife!
Maybe next time. I would like to meet a few other local TradGanger's.
Our local archery club has an annual bunny hunt every year, sometimes we get together a couple times, generally in Jan.& Feb.
-
Bringing this back up to the top. I will be posting some links to the DNR's map website to give everyone an idea as to the size of the public grounds. I will also be making a phone call and checking on some private land.
-
Link to the map is on page one.
-
I think I should be able to make it. I think my wife is working that Saturday but I think I can squeeze this in before I've gotta watch the kids.
Chris
-
Chris,
I will have everything opened up and set up by 8:00A.M. It'll be an all day event.
-
Is anyone bringing a dog ?
I have plans to be there, but lately I am afraid to commit to anything because of work.
I have a beagle I could bring. She is a pet and not a wonder dog, but she just loves going out and trailing things. Not sure how the snow depth is gonna be.
ChuckC

-
It there anyone else planning on stopping by?
Chuck, Bring your dog along. She'll have a great time.
-
I'll be there if I can make it. My daughter is starting swimming on Saturday mornings, so I will be more towards mid-day. I will bring my chocolate lab if I am able to make it. I should know in the next week or so.
He loves going to the archery club with me and always gives the bunnies a hard time in the yard around the house.
Jerry
-
Bsrring an ice storm or something like that, I'll definately be there.

Jerry, he sure is a good looking Lab!!!!!!!
-
Chuck leave the dog we want to hunt rabbits NOT deer!!!!!
-
whats wrong with deer ? they are just tall rabbits. I will bring the camera this time so I can get a picture of you carrying her out again when she gets tired.
Are you gonna be shooting S.F's or Ashby's that weekend ?
ChuckC
-
What the He@@ probably both. ( as long as I get them from your basement)
-
I'm planning a ride up there as long as there's no snowstorms or brutal weather.
-
It's going to be in the high 20's sun shine and no wind.
-
Guess I missed this a couple of days ago when it was at the top. I assume everything is a go?
TTT
Nathan
-
Nate,
You bet everything is still a go. I will have a update soon.
-
Been bunny hunting for the last month or so here. Sorry to have to miss this. I'll be getting back from Michigan on the 25th. Dang the luck:( Sounds like a hoot though!! Have a great time!!
-
Club House will be opened by 8 a.m.
Will anyone be interested in shootig 3D's?
What about around of Trap?
I would like to know, it takes some time to get them set up.
-
3D's would be fun, but I don't know if we will have time to pack it all into one day.
I have a few different farms lined up that we can try hunting on. Depending on how many people we have we might all go in one group or maybe split up.
I'll give you a call later Paul.
-
I am more interested in walking around after some bunnies and meeting and greeting the other Tradgangers. At this point JohnP and I will be there.
ChuckC
-
This is kinda like waiting for the opening day of deer season!!!!!!!! :archer:
-
I'm still in, at least the parts of me that ain't et up by frostbite.
-
I've got a friend who is interested in coming. He wants to know if he can bring his son, 9 yr old (I think).
Anyone bringing their kids along?
Chris
-
I'm hoping to bring my son along, he is 12, he can't hunt yet, no hunter ed class, but still wants to come along and stomp around with us! I hope this is OK with everyone!
-
Just got off the phone with Whip. He will bringing some of RER bows so everyone can take a look.
Bring along the kid's, no problem.
-
I can hardly wait!!!

Better leave the Mastercard at home then.... ;)

Thanks for the tip! :archer:

early forecast....high of 13 degrees.......
-
I will be there with my son Bryan, perhaps one nephew and maybe a friend of his. We dug through the junk pile and each have a fist full of one way arrows we can't wait to get rid of. Just did a test run in the crock pot of a new recipe and is a winner. I'll bring some hot sauce for the men.

Dale Moore from Janesville is going to join us along with his beagle. Are there other dogs coming for sure?
I also have another friend that is new to traditional that will come along. He is the guy with the private land that we can hunt with a group.
Have you tried to do a head count Paul?
-
Good luck you guys!!
-
I'm definetely in..... wife and kids are headed north this weekend and I'm batchin' it.
I'll be bringing my chocolate lab (but no charge card) I'm shooting to be at the club at 8:00a.m. and I've been trying to talk a few members from my club to come out as well.
If anyone is coming from the Wauwatosa area, more or less around the ZOO, your welcome to ride with me, I'll have plenty of room.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Does Dale post on here? I am in Elkhorn, curious if he wants to share a ride.
One question about hunting with the beagles, is it unadviseable to use broadheads for the rabbits with the dogs around? I would assume it is. I have experienced some non-recovery of rabbits shooting them with blunts and am wondering what guys are doing.
Nathan

No Broadheads. If anyone needs some Bunny Busters, I will have Ace Hex heads in various wts that can be purchased.

I can't make it now. Found out last week that Friday starts my week long on-call at work. I can't get away with a three hour drive if I get called in. :banghead:
Hopefully it turns into an annual event and I can make it next year.

I'm planning on attending the bunny romp with camera in hand so I can do a story about it for the premier issue of TradArchers' World magazine. This is the kind of "fun" trad archery event more people should be aware of. Looking forward to seeing lots of bunny hunters, dogs and smiling faces. Tom Colstad

Good luck you guys, and have fun!! The NY bunny hunters will be pulling for ya...
-
Arrows made, bow set up, gear in place. It's going to be a weeeeee bit chilly, but well worth the cold. The only catch is that I have to pull a couple stands from some private land I hunt north of there, which means I have to roll out at about 4 in the morning.
That reminds me...I need to make lots of coffee. :coffee:
-
Does anyone need extra disposable arrows? I've got a box of mismatched arrows I don't use. Maybe I'll bring it along just in case. I don't have tips for all of them but I'd hate to see someone losing pretty, matched arrows into the snow.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Wife is working, kids are going to Grandma's house, it's going to be a good day.

Best of luck to all you who go!!

I'll be bringing some venison meatballs with my special sauce from my first trad kill. They should help warm us up a bit.
-
The Map Quest link that I used is incorrect. It will only take you into Portland.
You will need to come into Waterloo on either HWy 19 or 89. At the 4 corners take 89 NORTH for a couple of miles. 89 veers to the left stay on County T. The club house is a couple miles up the road. Watch for the Gun Club sign on the Right.
My cell is 920-253-6709
-
I was just printing off the directions and noticed this! Thanks for the heads up Paul!
-
Packing up and heading out now.
-
Wow.... we had a great time today. Attendance was maybe 30 people (didn't count) and the food, hunting an comaradarie was nice. We will do this again. It was very cold and the snow pretty deep. Actually, there were several times I was WAY over my knees in the stuff. Course, the bunnies floated on top.
Pix were taken, but not by me. Someone will write and start telling stories.
If they include anything about me.... they are lies....
:bigsmyl:
It was great meeting all of you.

Stay tuned Whip will be a long shortly with a new thread and pic's of the hunt.
I met a lot of people, and I hope everyone had a great time.

Good times brothers, Good times! Just got home and thawing out a bit as everything is frozen!!!!!!!! Burrrrr!

I did start a new thread here for all of the stories and pictures.
