Title: new to this

hey all you trad gangers. I'm kinda new to the trad thing, and I'm trying to be a little more self reliant in my trad archery needs. What I'm trying to do is build a couple of strings for a couple of bows that I have. One is a Fred Bear Kodiak Magnum(45# 52") and the other is a Browning Nomad II (50# 60"). My question is this: how long do I make each finished string? Is it 3 inches or 4 inches shorter than the length of the bow? Any help will be appreciated. In my next adventure, I;m going to make a string board. Thanks for the help.              Jerry

Welcome redjack.....I believe you'll want to make the string about 4 inches shorter....I'm no expert but I think the general rule of thumb is 4 inches for recurves and 3 inches for longbows.   Again, welcome and hope you enjoy the board.

You can follow the general rules listed above but why not just measure the strings that are on the bow now?
