Hey this just ain't right. I was pig hunting last night and it was 64 degrees and it dropped when the sun went down to 41 when I finally got home.
It's 19 with a windchill of 2 degrees F.
I packing my stuff and dog and headed south. The dang Democrats cure global warming and started an iceage.
How the heck do you north guys hunt in this?
LOL
Mike
-
we are currently 7 deg F with a -17 wind chill
-
I hear ya. Was planning on going bass fishing again today. Wrong :bigsmyl: ...Van
-
Wingnut you first have to think like a man crossing the Breing 'land bridge'..... ooh too political!
Boot of choice - size too big, wool insert, wool sock, Webfoots Body Sock, Wool vest, wool sweater, windproof jacket, wool hat, wool fingerless glomitt...maybe we oughta hunt more sheep!
Stay warm, Merry Christmas To All!!
-
-5 here, don't even know the wind chill............
-
It's a good day to re-arrange things in the shop. At 2 degrees like it is here right now with a forcasted high of 6 to 10 I'll wait for a better day. Weather man just said wind chill is -16.
Thankfully our antlerless season is open until Jan. 31st and We can still take a Buck up to Dec.31st. There will be better days. I have clothes to keep Me warm but My problem is I can't keep My eyes from watering when it's this COLD.

2 degrees here in Indiana this morning. Wind chill is -16. Stay warm everybody!
-
As soon as I get out of church here in a few hours, about noon, I am strapping on my Sitka Gear and heading to the stand.
I have been waiting for this in the late season. This cold will spur on a feeding need and the big boys can't stay locked down in this cold weather. Heading to an interior feeding source near a bedding area(honeysuckle and briar patch) and waiting.
Even if you can only take it for a few hours...this is a good day to take a mature whitetail.
-
good clothes and the right mind sset or some will will call that mind set being crazy!
-
Snowing two days straight the warmest it's been is 10 degrees not counting what the wind chill has made the actual temperature. We're expecting another 5-8" of snow this afternoon and another 5-8" tonight with more snow tomorrow.
-
Isn't it great, if the weather gets really cold, the Global Warming Lemmings say it's a sign of warming, if it gets really hot, it's a sign of Global Warming. If we have more than usual hurricanes, it's Global Warming, less than normal hurricanes, it's Global Warming. They sure cover their bases don't they ? This has to be the biggest scam ever foisted upon the world. And Al Gore is making millions upon millions off of it.
-
its about -4 here at night in Gunnison whats a little chili for an African, locals say it will get a lot colder.
-
All you guys are in a heat wave right now. -3 deg actuall temp with a -29.5 deg windchill here this morning.
The only global warming that takes place is when Al Gore opens his mouth.
-
The other group of climate "scientists" will publish in the next journal that we are headed to a mini iceage!!! I'm old enough to remember this during the 1970's. Fact is they don't know and cannot prove any of it... It's all about directing lifestyles and of course money!!!
Woke up to 5 degrees with below 0 wind chill.. Yes I do love cold weather.. I lived in Texas and can't believe people live in that heat and humidity... LOL
Stay warm down there Wingnut...

It's currently 19f here and snowing again we got 10 inches friday night and another 6 coming today. We haven't seen snow like this in a few years. Skippy
-
Last week we had a massive ice storm. We lost power for 3 days. Some folks are still without power. I missed the final weekend of deer season because we were staying with my brother. I did get a chance to go out Monday 12/14 in the afternoon after restarting my furnace and water system which I had drained. Friday we got about 12 inches of snow. Saturday was clean up day though we got at least another inch then. Today, we are due for 8-10 inches more. Wingnut, to answer your question. What I do in this weather is sit on my recliner and watch TV. I am looking forward to the Pats and then the Celtics. I may stain bow and make some shafts. Technically, it's not Winter yet. I'm not even going to church. I can deal with the cold but I wait for the snow to stop before heading into the woods. I dress in layers with no cotton t shirt near my skin. I put on polypro or duo underwear (sometimes both) followed by a sweat shirt and a wool shirt or sweater. If it's windy I'll put on a nylon jacket with a camo shirt over it. I much prefer NH's early season which starts 9/15. Once mid November rolls around keeping warm is a battle. Jawge
-
-3 here right now with a windchill of -20. The high is supposed to be 6 with the wing blowing around 30-35mph. It wouldnt be so bad except for the 3/4" of ice on top of everything. I went to the woods and left...Way to many limbs falling to feel safe...
-
Thankfully, I do like snowshoeing and stumping. :) Jawge
-
Oh I wish it was 19 here. Right now it is -9, not sure with wind chill.
:campfire: Hudle close to the fire.
-
I hear ya' JDS3. I remember back in the 70,s. They scared the hell out of people telling them that it would get colder and colder. Now it's hotter and hotter. The proven point is, there's money in scaring dumbasses. The sad thing, if you question them, they tell you the argument is over, it's a proven fact and we should get over it.. Remember the hole in the ozone ? I guess it just healed itself because they no longer claim it to be a problem.
-
Well it's really warm here it Ct. right now. 18f.Had 10-12 inches of snow yesterday and another 5-8" expected today.I'm going to write Mr. Gore a letter to express my disappointment.LOL (nut)
-
-25 here. Deer are moving pretty good. Stuck inside with my small kids and dogs though...
-
+21F here at my place here in Arkysaw this morning. I'm planning a hunt in the morning and tonight is supposed to be the coldest night we've had in two years - down in the teens. Now I know to you bruthas up North that ain't no biggie, but down here it is big news (and really cold for me). I'm gonna see how long I can sit in a stand in the morning. If I'm really tough (I'm a cold-weather wimp) I might make it 30 minutes... :help:
-
I checked mine this morning and I think the remote transmitter froze. I had -- for an outside temperature display. Went out and checked it ad it is 8.6*f.
It was just last Saturday that we had a high of 67* at noon and at 7pm it was 20 and still falling. 47* drop in seven hours is a little quick around here.

Went pheasant hunting the other day and it was neg 1 F. And the wind was a blowin so.... :scared:
Still had fun.
-
-2 this morning like Bretto said and -16 wind chill. I've hunted the last two mornings wearing Sitka's base layers plus poly socks, gloves and face mask. Second layer of heavy winter fleece and heavy wool socks. Third layer of wool pants and jacket and stormy cromer wool hat.
The deer are moving good, Turkey's were gobbling this morning for awhile I liked that. I only set for a couple of hours and would sit mid-day but have a family dinner to go to, maybe tonight.
Tracy :campfire: :archer:
-
You boys and girls up North can have your weather. It dropped down into the 20's while I was home hunting and I can say I do not have enough cold weather clothes.
Looks like Grey Wolf Woolens is going to be getting an order from me next year for some insulated Wolfskin. As is a fellow Trad Ganger for some merino wool long johns
-
last night I sat in a tree stand and after 3 hours had about 2 inches of snow stacked up on my shoulders and hat. i decided to "clean my self" by doing a vigorous shake. Rule # 1 one while hunting in the northland, always look over BOTH shoulders before shaking. All that time in the tree and the one minute I decide to do something stupid, a doe is 20 yards behind me and coming down the trail! Need i say I didn't get my shot!!
i love this time of year all most everyone else is inside watching foot ball!
-
Strage time in Seattle too.We had 6 3/4" of snow 14 degree temps with 60 mile an hour winds. And then got 6 more inches of snow last night.I wish the darn global warming would get started soon.I'am freezeing my buns off and can't hardly get out of my yard..bowdoc

We are a balmy 5 and waiting for a nor'easter to fire up. You can ignore the data, and certainly question the source of climate change, but there is enough data to indicate change. Don't worry though it won't effect us to much, it is our children and grandchildren that will deal with the changes.
And the ozone hole is still there, though growing slower due to the law banning cfc's in aerosol cans. The effects are the increase in skin cancer that are now showing up. Since cfc's take 25 years to hit the ozone and the law went into effect in the 80's hopefully we will see an increase in ozone and corresponding decrease in skim cancer in the next 20 years.
-
I was in Nebraska last week vistitng in laws and was plannning to get some hunting in but.........got up sunday morning it was -8 and wind chill -25. How is a boy from MS suppose to hunt in weather liked that. I still went, cold but saw a lot of deer.
-
just got to dress for it

High snow and winds here in Michigan. Kinda like the old days. Not being a scientist I guess global warming doesn't have to be about seasonal weather but about global weather /temperature trends. Of course your favorite political view may change what your brain tells you is correct. I hear the Sun still revolves around the Earth
and we really are the center of the Solar System even in the blizzard! :campfire:
-
Bowdoc,
Connie flew into SeaTac last night about 7:30 your time during the storm. I'm headed up tomorrow afternoon. Already packed my woolies.
Mike
-
Its a Balmy 9 degees here. Windchill -10. I like the cold. Really makes the deer move. Just wish I could get a little of that white stuff.

-9 here with -37 wind chill. We are in a blizzard warning (high winds and about 10-11 inches of snow since Friday). The only thing I'm hunting today is another cup of hot coffee! :campfire:

Good morning Tracy.
Chris Surtees, You better get ready if Your going to be stationed at Fort Riley. Not only does it get cold in Manhattan Ks. but the wind NEVER EVER EVER quits blowing.
Stay warm Everyone and have a great day.

Well Mike, I'll be hunting for another cup of coffee in my shop, that's about what I'll hunt today. I used to like winter, snowmobiling and stuff, but now I just wait for spring to come, and build stuff in my shop :-). Merry Christmas to you and yours. Bill G.

9 with a -8 windchill.

It's tough here also guys----I rode my motorcyle to to Daytona yesterday while wearing a t-shirt.
-
Close to 3 ft of snow, havent seen 32 degrees in over a week, havent been hunting in over a week...PR
-
We had 19 degrees with 70 mph winds last night. Blowing snow and ice everywhere. My German Shorthaired Pointer has been holding her water like a camel trying to avoid going outside.
I don't know how you hearty souls back east deal with this on a regular basis?
I have Gore-Tex, wool and poly-propelene, so I can stay warm, but going anywhere is near impossible. Our roads are just impassable in the ice. Too many hills. :help:
-
:biglaugh: Time to pack up and move north.
-
Saturday evening December 13th I went hunting when the temp was 58 degrees, kind of worked up a sweat getting to the stand. The next day the temp dropped to 8 degrees  and has been at or below that since then. It's - 1 right now, don't even want to know what the windchill is. Should I catch up on some NFL games today or go hunting? Hmmmmmm..........
-
13 degrees here.
really want to go salmon trolling, but it is solstice so i have family social obligations...
supposed to blow over the next few days... this might be my only chance for a while...
i WISH i had hogs or deer to chase
-
we freeze our butts off...that's how we do it. :readit:
-
-20 on the thermometer this morning, too depressing to even check what the wind chill is, but it is howling.
-
Minus 7 windchill 30 below. Yesterday it was 28 and snowy, removed an inch of ice off the side walks and deck that fell Thursday nite and Friday. Stayin in where its warm.
-
Just took this picture of my deck that was shoveled this morning...ERRRR that will be 2 feet of white stuff on the ground! Doc

I don't doubt your scientific credentials when you claim that global warming is a scam. But I would certainly appreciate it if you would send me your evidence that Al Gore is making "millions and millions" off this scam.
-
Just checked the temp. 3 degree's with winds gusting between 40-45 mph. Wind chill in the neighborhood of -20
-
Its up to 45 here,in my shop! 4.1 outside,I need more heat or more insulation!!

That's not evidence. In fact those links are nothing more than articles from publications and websites with a far right political agenda. You are of course certainly entitled to your own political beliefs. Even so, you might like to know that there are political conservatives who disagree with you on this issue:

I'd like nothing better than to be out bunny hunting today. But like many of you folks I'm staying indoors due to the snow and road conditions.
:(
But point taken. I'll be good. :D
-
You're right Wingnutty ( I borrowed Rusty's name for you, like the old days) I'm too cold to argue politics anyway.
I killed a deer yesterday morning, and until I get back to the woods Friday I'm done killin'. Well I might knock off a beer or two, but only in self defense. LOL.
-
its -16 now was -28 last night with clearskies tonight I bet it'll get colder. (not much for wind today so that helps a bunch)
-
Just about 36" of snow on the ground here now and still falling.
-
Snowed all day ,let up and then started again. 8" fresh and still snowing. The Carolinas are looking better all the time. Could be hunt'n some pigs!!!!!!
-
It was -15 when Doug and I headed to our whitetail/elk stands this morning. A couple of other friends decided they didn't want to hunt this morning, I wonder why? One thing I can tell you though, it is a a lot easier to chase kitties when it is -23 the it is to sit in a treestand at -15. :coffee:
-
I spent the last 2 days looking for deer a little ways from my house, 20" of snow and still coming down I figured I would see a couple. I didn't see a single deer and the only fresh tracks were in my yard when I got home!
-
Mark Twain said he asked an Iowa farmer about the winter and the farmer told him, "If we'd had another inch on the thermometer we'd have all froze to death."
Mine has been stuck in the minus range for a few days with lots of wind, but its gun season anyway. Back to bow season tomorrow with a warm spell (above zero) this week.
And only a week to go before I wander south to see how cold TX is for myself. 10 day forecast for Austin area looks like highs in the 60's. I can hunt in that in a tee shirt.
-
Global warming is,has and always will be a joke in the Adirondacks.
-
WingNut....I keep hopin to move to Idaho.....but it's cold here (down to 20's) tonight. Don't know if I could handle 6-8 months of this!!!
-
I was goin' to hunt this mornin, gotup and headed to the stand @ 5:30, made it off the porch and the wind was blowin out of the north @20MPH. So I turned around and headed for the bed room, crawled back in bed with my wife, and said "it's darn cold out there" she replyed, Yea and can you belive my husband is out hunting in this weather!!!....AND THE FIGHT WAS ON!!!!
-
It's -5 in Illinois, and the wind is blowing about 20-30 mph. Once you get into the timber the wind is not so bad. However we had ice on Friday and some more yesterday, and you can't walk on this stuff. I stayed home. Boys just came home from college and we had an indoor tournament. I won a couple of rounds, but it was nice to see the boys win a few too, esp the youngest one. We'll see if we have some thaw and try again. Actually, if it were just the cold, it's good hunting weather. The wind and ice are killers, however.
Good hunting guys

Well first you've got to layer your clothes and stay away from cotton if possible. Start with something next to the skin and gradually have looser outer garment to allow for air to breath. Avoid sweating and get some of those hand warmers for your boots and gloves. I eat like a horse too so I can maintain high calories for my body to burn while it's keeping warm.
-
longarrow, I don't care who you are, that's funny right there
-
Hey lady's let stay on track here.Mike was kind enough to start this thread and we gotta respect him for that and stay on topic..
Darn it,it's the last week of deer season out here.I was gonna sneek off for 4-5 days and chase some blacktail around buit not gonna happen I guess. We're getting pounded with snow agian in the great northwest. The weather man is talking snow and freezeing temps all week.Don't look like I'll be makeing it out.bowdoc
-
It was 65 deg this morning. We are having a cold front move through right now. It's gonna be cold tommorrow. It will only reach the lower 50s. I'm gonna have to wear extra clothes, so I don't freeze! Supposed to hit 80 Christmas day. That stinks! We haven't had snow since 1989.

...yea, and can you believe....
Now, I gotta clean tea off my keyboard!!
Believe what you will...it's winter, and it's cold!
Anyone really surprised?
Keep a weather eye towards the sun; it'll tell you a lot!!
Mike, I'd be happy to meet you in the middle of the thermometer...I'll bring you an extra wool sweater!

It's -25 Celcius and windy today and will be for a while yet, it is supposed to get really cold in the next couple of days, wind chill in the -40 range which is -40 F as well. Deer season is over and coyote hunting is on now. Got one last week and heading out tuesday for another go with the longbow. Wear Helly Hansen polypro underwear, thick fleece bottoms, a set of wool pants and Cotton snow camo over top as a wind break. A good wool parka with a down vest over a wool sweater, thick polypro shirt up top and a real good block heater on your head. For footwear, polypro socks, 2 pairs of handmade wool socks (thick and thicker) and a pair of moccassin rubbers over top. Your feet will be scary warm, any perspiration moves away from your feet and life is great. The snow sits on top of the wool socks and doesn't have any negative effect until you get into a warm vehicle, then look out, you will be wishing your buddy was wearing your feet. Leather moccasins over top are pretty good as well but trap the moisture from your feet. The moccasin rubbers are for traction and protection, they are little tough to find unless you get up north where they are more popular. Wool gloves under large fleece lined leather mitts for your hands...nothing else comes close except for wool gloves inside wool mitt liners inside large leather mittens. Use those kid strings attached to the mitts when you get to shoot, just shake them off and let them hang, easy to get back on quickly. Wear a tab over your wool glove inside the mitt on your shooting hand.

-4 with a wind chill at - 36. She is a blowing.

-36 Celsius this morning, with a windchill rated at -46 Celsius.
Thats cold, no matter how you look at it.
Lite poly-pro base layer, heavy poly-pro underwear, military woolie-pullie, vest, jacket.
Helly Hansen lite watch cap, under a heavy fleece watch cap (toque, or stocking cap)
Military cold weather mitts, with Helly Hansen lite liner gloves.
Neoprene face mask, UV googles (Ski type)
Heavy felt pac boots, with silk liner socks, lite merino wool socks, and heavy wool socks.
Light wool pants, with heavy wool pants over those.
I carry the heater packets for warming hands and feet, on the long days, too.
The pack has extra socks, extra mitts, extra toque, a mylar survival bag, fire starter kit, etc. Along with lots of food, and medications, in case I am stuck somewhere.
Just have to dress for the deep freeze, and be prepared.
(You must not mind the odd bit of frostbite, either! :) )

Without the snow and cold we would have some of the critters they have in other states. Plus my wife LOVES the snow, and makes her feel "cozy".
I love that part. :D :D :D
Old man winter has been somewhat weak for about ten years, he is making a comeback.
I work outside, and he is giving me a good whipping. I dress for it and sleep like most people wish they could after being out in it from 8 to 5.
I PRAY to god that the global warming thing is just a money making hoax.
Be brave...winter is a newborn, and just getting started!

Well we jumped from the pan into the fire. Now in Washington with white stuff and cold temps everywhere. I'm bundled up and I'm insidethe house. LOL

at least we don't live in some place like fargo where it gets down to -40 windchill. i know what you mean though

OMG! for a minute I thought there were TWO Wingnuts!!!!!!

Hey, yesterday was 25 deg. and wind 35-48 mph.Cold! Nothing like our friendly winds here in the Panhandle to make life fun, much less for fun archery. We have some interesting shots in our "minor" breezes. I know others have winds too, but ours seem to never cease. There ain't a straight tree anywhere in this part of the world. Today, temp up to 50 but so is the wind. Shooting some anyway. Trick is to shoot at what want to hit, then when you don't you have a great excuse;

Sunday morning it was -12 up in central WI with 35+ mph west winds. Wind chill was somewhere around -40. But since I have two does in my garage, I really can't complain too much. ;)

Well it's currently -20C up here. We just dug out of a 17" snowfall and it's snowing again. Another 6" supposed to fall today. This is definitly snowshoes for snowshoe country this year.
