Title: Bamboo cane poles for bows?
Post by: buffalobillpatrick on March 09, 2007, 05:36:00 PM
Has anyone tried just plain old Bamboo cane poles for bow limbs?

Do they work?

Would they be "Traditional" due to their round shape?

There was an article in one of the Traditional Bowyer's Bibles about that very thing. The author took Martha Stewart tomato stakes and bundled them together, staggering the tips, and made a serviceable bow out of it. Even won a few matches, if I remember correctly.

I tried it once, and made a bow that would shoot, but I didn't spend much time with it.

I meant like 3/4" ones & just leave them natural & round.

When dried, are they stiff enough compaired with their mass?
