Title: What goes with Cocobolo
Post by: Bear Heart on February 06, 2009, 09:42:00 PM
I have settled on cocobolo veneers with a good amount of red to them.  What is your favorite riser wood to go with them?  There will be a little black micarta stripe in the riser.  This is for a TD griffin.

Look at Matt Torno's bow up top here.... I think that is a Blacktail with Coco / Ebony. I always thought that was a pretty combo. I love the Blacktail footed riser, what a work of art.

Oregon myrtle is a sweet choice for a light contrast.

I think Coco Bolo would be a nice choice with the riser as well.I do like Osage with Coco Bolo alot in a riser but not sure how that would work with Coco limbs and mostly  Osage riser with the micarta I beam?Might be good?If he could put Osage and Coco bolo in the riser along with the Micarta that would be sweet.

I think  black glass, then osage and Coco bolo on top would look nice for the riser overlays and tip overlays personally.

I just got my 2 piece bowbolt Griffin recently and its working out well for me.

Good luck with your bow.It will be nice whatever you decide on!

Gaboon Ebony or Wenge looks good and will make the Cocobolo pop.

I didn't think about darker woods making it stand out.  Good idea.

Before I opened this, my first thought was an Osage accent in a Cocobolo handle.  Lots of good choices here.

I'd have to go with Osage, especially when it ages...

Bocote with the black in the riser would go great with the red Cocobolo veneers.  The Bocote makes for a great contrast with the Cocobolo veneers and the black in the riser makes for a great contrast with the Bocote in the riser and the red Cocobolo limb veneers.

Osage as well, but that Ebony looks good too!! Either a lighter wood as been said or a real dark almost black would be nice. I also would give a thought to leopardwood! Shawn

Macasser Ebony. Actually, most woods go well with cocobolo, as you can see from the pictures of all the bows posted here.

It will already have black micarta in the riser so another black wood probably wouldn't do much.
