Title: does anyone else think that 3-D leaf tops are a pain to shoot in?
Post by: ozy clint on March 02, 2009, 11:24:00 PM
i've had a 3d leafy suit for quite a while. i love the camo effect but gee it's a pain in the
#$$. it always seems to snag the string. i've tried sewing some of the leaves down, even glueing them down. i also have 3-4 rubber bands on my upper arm. i'm thinking about cutting the bow arm sleeve off. any of you guys got similar problems?? how do you guille guys cope?

I cut the leafy stuff off on the inside of the forearm so my string doesn't catch. Still have the sleeve to keep the skeets away. I found too if your suit is a bit baggy to roll the cuff up a couple times and it will take up the slack.

Cost me a donkey once. I haven't worn it since.

Like Arwin said you gotta cut the leaves off the inside of the arm. I cut the leaves off up to my arm pit and around the arm a little to make sure they are out of the way, hav'nt had a problem yet.

You might try an extra long armguard. The kind that covers the bi-cep area down to the wrist as well.

Yeh... I've a love/hate issue with mine. Darn good item on getting close to deer but can be a pain allright.

Now I just go a long sleeve top in ASAT. Works just as good if you know how to stalk.

A compression sleeve helped my problem with string drag.I found it at Cabela's.

I hunt in mine all the time. I put an arm gaurd on to prevent that from happening.

Trimming the frequent leafy offenders with scissors will get you about 75% of the way there. To deal with the rest, the ones that seem to flop into the way depending on your stance, cut the toe from an extra long, green sock and pull it onto your sleeve.

You can move the sock around to position it where it's most useful and it usually stays in place even when you have taken the jacket off. Depending on your arm size, you might need to make a little cut in the elastic so it's not too tight.

trim the leafy stuff on that sleeve and on your chest area where the string goes by.

I also use an arm guard on mine along with those velcro cable tie straps that you find at the hardware store. The ones I found come in a roll with about 30-50 straps. I keep a half roll in my pack...they are aslo handy for making a makeshift blind. Rubber bands also work well.

Trim the suit by giving it to someone you don't care much for, then buy plain camo or some wool checks 8^).

I just cut the sleeve off of mine at the elbow on my left arm so no more problems now . Still have some skeeter problems but I dont have to think about the string hitting that sleeve anymore .

My old MO leafy suit doesn't have the "leaves" on the inner arms, or by the armpits for that matter.

Just camo fabric.
