I've been saving all of my wood pellet bags for stuffing bag targets, and a friend who has a small coffee company sent me some heavy burlap bags. What else do y'all use in making them? I've seen some with cardboard inside the faces then stuffing, some with stuffing only. Gotta get some new targets made up for the season, so let the suggestions fly.

Kevin, Just jam them full with plastic sheeting. the stuff often found around construction sites. You can buy it too at any homecenter. Just wad it up and jam it in then sew the end closed. I've never found a bow of any type that will shoot through and arrow removal is easy.

Pallet wrapping plastic and plastic bags from the store work well, too.
-
Kevin, I've always stuffed them with shredded rags and never found any arrow that it wouldn't stop. Arrow removal is no problem.
-
Plastic Grocery bags. Keeps them out of the landfill too.
-
I get the night crew at a supermarket to save the pallet plastic for me and stuff it in 100# plastic feed sacks I scrounge from the feed store. Cheap=$0.

I have the burlap and those heavy plastic bags that wood pellets come in. I was wondering if I need anything else on the inside faces to support and help the burlap retain it's shape and even out the thickness. Maybe a sheet of heavy cardboard or something?

I used two burlap bags on mine for extra durability. Seem to hold up pretty well.

Burlap Sack filled with air cleaner filters. Works good with two finger arrow removal.
-
I picked up some grommets at the feed store. Pretty easy to install and makes tying the pags up easier.

Another way to tie them up. Before sewing shut put a small ball or even a rock in each top corner then tie rope or wire around the insert to hang from. Will be stronger than the grommets.

Ron, I have some golfballs that will never see their intended use at my house, so I planned on putting them into the corners. I figure two up top to tie onto and two in the bottom corners to tie off to something to stop the swing.

Another nice thing about bag targets is that when they get scruffy just stuff the whole thing inside another bag stitch up the end & go again. Frank

Kevin,
Care to share some of the burlap bags.

pallet plastic/shrink wrap free and last a looonnngg time.

At certain times of the year Menards gets coffee sacks heavy burlap in. Check the nursery (plants)dept. They were .50 last time I bought some.
-
i do all of the above but run a small pvc pipe down the top for support. keeps the bag from "caving in" in the middle after being shot several times.
-
How well do these hold up to broad heads?
-
Broad heads will cut up the bag. Not recommended!!
-
Yep, broadheads make short work of bag targets.
Andy, let me see what I can do about getting some more bags. This guy is a small, one-man op so supply varies.
-
Go to nearest co-op feed store and they'll give you all the pallet wrap you can handle! Same as shrink-wrap I guess......My bag has held up well for two years now, without re-filling.

My buddy Micah put one together for me a couple of weeks ago.
Burlap bag $2.00, Shrink Wrap from warehouse free, having a 10 yard range in the hallway, priceless :D
Micah also puts a string through the top (see pics) so it can be hung in the air. As you can see it is sewn with heavy thread at the top.

Here is one of mine thats about a year old. Sits out in the foul weather all year long. I have shot thousands of arrows into this target and it still stops them with ease. I put bubble wrap and plastic grocery bags in it. I have since stuffed this bag into a new burlap and looks good as new. Hang them side ways for a deers body! I now zip tie the top shut and use the ties to hang the target

Kevin,
I went to our local Meijer (similar to Wal Mart) and asked them if I could have the plastic grocery bags in the recycle bin. I got enough out of one bin for about two targets, I have an old Third Hand target cover from when I used to rep. for them, it is about worn out though!

Oh yeah, when I go to the grocery store I always double bag it! :bigsmyl: Cooperseed sells large burlap bags for $2.00.

Boxes. Pizza boxes layered inside regular boxes, old air filters, old carpet or door mats, plastic bags. Old used up targets as a starter. Masonite or sheet rock on the top and bottom. Good stuff. I duct tape a target made from cardboard to the outside. after a while, I replace it. PIzza pans are good too. Run a wire thru the middle and you can hang it. I stake smaller boxes with old arrows into the ground and make my own 3d range. Just walk around the yard and shoot. I thy to put the targets where there's a berm behind them. Shoot uphill and off the deck like a tree stand. Old targets are great starters for new targets. Don't throw out the boxes. Styro foam. Pellets, plastic wrap. There is so much game out there to shoot at
Big jugs of laundry soap, gallon milk jugs with some water in teh bottom for weight are like a turkey shoot.
