Title: EASTON SELECTION CHART...Overspined ???
Post by: Cinghiale on March 28, 2009, 04:31:00 PM
I have a question about EASTON SELECTION CHART....It seems to be too overspined by the common sense. For example for a Recurve bow 50# dacron string 160 grains broadhead with the chart published by ARROWS BY KELLY is raccomanded a 2018 shaft ...with EASTON CHART a 2117-2216 .
What's your opinion ???

The Easton chart uses a different standard, 28" centers and a 1.94# weight the AMO standard that the Kelly chart is based on (and the one to use) is based on 26" centers and a 2# weight.

Easton's chart has consistently recommended arrows much too stiff for most recurves and longbows in my experience, usually at least two spine values too strong

Agreed, it is deceiving...if you are uniformed (like I was) you end up wasting money on shafts which are way over spined.

Red Boar, when I started shooting I bought over 4 dozen of the wrong shafts.  I also couldn't figure out why my arrows hit to the left, after awhile I figured it out but like you I wasted a lot of money in the beginning.

Thanks, chef...you made me feel better knowing I wasn't the only one.   :)  Wonder why they don't update that chart?

I wonder if part of the problem isn't extra precaution for liability if someone uses an arrow that isn't stiff enough and runs one through thieir wrist?

cinghiale, I have a True flight shaft selector from 1992, 50-55lbs- 2212,2114,2016, 2115,2018, 3-28 shafts are recommended. You have to take in account alot, f.f. string,  recurve , longbow. but this slide chart is pretty close. Honestly I have shot 2016, 2018 and 2216, and 2117  from these weight. We are all made different. one size doesn't fit all! Good shootin to you, Steve
