Which would you choose for use on your bow? Foam cores? Or Bamboo/Actionboo cores?
I just purchased a Morrison ILF riser with TT longbow limbs. I'll be sending a MO to Bob tomorrow for a set of Dakota ILF limbs.

For me I would go with what's been working for years...Bamboo. Just my opinion though....IJ
-
Boo for sure... I have heard good things about foam but for me I like wood and whats more Traditional than wood and boo. If I was into the metal riser stuff I might think about foam. But I am NOT. Good luck deciding.

Foam has been working for a lot of years, too, with FITA and Olympic archers.

elkslayer,
I've already made my decision. I'll be putting a MO in the mail to Bob tomorrow for a set of foam core Dakota ILF limbs.
-
for Bob's bows I like the foam, a tad smoother on the draw, and it seems to me they lessen hand shock a bit. some guys say they are quieter, not sure about that, but they do have a different sound.
-
foam here!!!!Bob foam core limbs are as good as they get in my opinion!!!!!
-
Boo, foam is smooth but so is boo and I do not like the sound of the foam limbs, just llike double carbon limbs, they make a noise I just cannot get used to and the deer don't like it either. Shawn

Every foam core limb bow I have shot has a different sound. It just does not have the sound of wood or bamboo. It is up to you whether it is worth the price difference or not. Flint

I think you have a lot of bows so get the latest.
-
I can start by saying that there is not much rhyme nor reason to my thinking! :D
I stopped short of buying the new Border "HexV" limbs though I have no doubt as to their superior performance. I just love that wood! That being said, I have carbon in both my Border recurves and longbow-ya just gotta cover it up with wood! :bigsmyl:
In fewer words, I'm with elkslayer!

I have both and like the foam better. Smoother on the draw and quieter to my ear. But that said, they are both really great.
-
I think OL pointed out in the last thread on foam that the key difference is, foam characteristics are more consistent than wood or bamboo through varying temperatures.
It should be lighter than bamboo too, but there seems to be some question if the weight advantage is actually there in the final product.
I still trying to figure out just what "smooth" means.

I ordered a set of bamboo Arapaho limbs for my Shawnee just yesterday. Wanted too keep in tradition with my other bows and I like the color of a light stained bamboo. Bob was a great guy too deal with also.
Don't know anything about the foam core limbs so can't say anything there. With me it was just a personal choice.
-
I have both the foam and the boo Morrison limbs and like the foam core, carbon backed longbow limbs the best. Bob Morrison can shoot any of the limbs he wants, and he shoots the foam/carbon limbs and says he won't ever go back to the boo core limbs. My opinion may not mean much, but Bob's ought to!

Shawn, all those dead one's REALLY hated the sound. :biglaugh:
For me, I feel the number one advantage of a foam limb is it's lack of noise. I have guys who have quiet bows comment on a regular basis how much quieter either one of my carbon/foam longows are. May not be that way with all of them, but I'll take my two over any bamboo I've personally shot or heard anyday.

I've shot foam core limbs for years in wheelie bows, and the one asset is, the limbs do not change with tempeture. Shooting competition, this characteristic is important. Most if not all of your olympic shooters are shooting foam, so why not tradional? We talk tradition, yet we love and use the modern materials as well. Foam would be a good choice for the precision minded! Of course, if you only shoot ten yards, then anything will work! :-)
-
I like shooting both. As far as the precision be careful, the Koreans who have been spanking everyone at the world competitions have been using the Samick Masters which are wood cored. Most all the limbs will shoot better than 99.9% of the archers in the world will ever be able to use. Find a set that draws the way you like and stick with them.

I think all this foam is smoother and quieter stuff is in your guys head.I've shot both and can't tell that much if any difference.IMO,if you want a all the goods w/ a bow ,one needs to go carbon limbs w/ no glass
