my buddy and I scouted out a new place to hunt, its around 200 acres, there are people who hunt this place a lot during deer season but no one hunts pigs there in the summer so we got permission to hunt pigs, we have never been pig hunting before but we know what pig sign looks like and what the tracks look like and the only sign we found were a couple small tracks on a game trail, the property is bordered by a HUGE swamp that we were told never to go back in cuase people get lost there easily, we are pretty sure the pigs are in the swamp during the day and come out to feed at night, so how do we hunt these pigs with trad bows?, do we spot and stalk along the edges of the swamp?, put out corn? what do you guys who also live in swampy areas do to hunt pigs, everyone here either uses dogs or just shoots them while deer hunting

1. Stillhunting in the swamp would be my first choice. You can cover a lot of ground so a GPS is a good idea if it's thick tall cover including cypress & other hardwoods. Hogs are most active at daylight & near dark. They'll be in the shadows under bushes, etc during the heat of the day. 2. Look for mud rubs & wallows just inside the treeline of the swamp. Find a good limb, crawl up & wait. 3. I'd rather not use bait; however, corn is pig candy.
Apex Predator hunts more swamps than me and will give you some very useful information about hog hunting in general. BTW, definitely see the hog hunting videos on another recent thread. (How to call & stalking)

Ian I would scout the edges of the swamp. If the area is as thick as the swamps I hunted the last two days, you'll need to get up in a treestand to be able to see more than a few feet. A good GPS is also good advice, but before you venture out into the swamp make sure you know how to use it. Also, you'll need to see what kind of bottom the swamp holds. Many of the swamps down here are silt and mud bottoms that are not walkable.

Get the wind in your face and still hunt the edge of the swamp until you find what they are feeding on. Concentrate around feeding areas early and late, and the bedding areas in the middle of the day.

Go fast until you find them then slow down. Most guys hunt too slow and don't cover enough ground. Remember, they ain't whitetails. You can stumble up to within 60 yards or so, THEN, slow down a little. Not too slow cause the longer you're within 15 or 20 yards of them, the better the chance they have at smelling you or catching your movement. Move in and make a shot!
